Employability means far more than simply ‘getting a job’. It is about the graduate being able to draw on a range of skills, behaviours and knowledge that can be applied in a range of settings and that vary from individual to individual. Nowadays a degree is no longer sufficient for success in the job market. Employability has to be an ongoing developmental process in the current occupational climate.

At Aberdeen Business School we believe there are three main components to Employability:
• Experience
• Enterprise
• Education

We ensure that within the course our graduates are given the opportunity to develop the skills and competences which comprise each of the components above. This is achieved by:

• Developing self-awareness
• Knowledge and application of a wide range of transferable skills
• A robust and structured CPD process
• Guest lectures from a wide range of industry representatives
• Networking with a range of occupational specific industry specialists
• The use of real life case studies
• The use of a simulated work environment
• Completing work based projects
• Knowledge of the appropriate occupational theoretical underpinning
• The application of that theoretical underpinning

Your programme of study

Convert your degree from any discipline or add Marketing Management to become employable nationally and internationally. Marketing Management can be a stand alone advanced degree which focuses on the strategic side of marketing and business at operational level. It allows you to scrutinise all parts of a business to determine issues within a life cycle and customer acquisition giving you options and recommendations for trouble shooting issues. It sits above tactical advertising methods by providing the necessary skills to analyse what tangible and intangible areas of the business are communicating in terms of the 7 Ps and communications channels and whether the problem lies within the product, its communication or a combination of both. It also operates at brand level to determine how well your brand is communicating internally and externally and whether all parts of your business are customer centric.

Not only does Marketing Management allow this level of scrutiny to occur but it allows you to develop a very strong range of skills to critically analyse competitors, the environment in which you trade, new trends which may impact, understand customer expectations and act upon them and avoid churn. These skills are also useful to you if you are contemplating taking a new product or innovation to market either within a larger business function or your own enterprise. You can also provide significant consultancy work to assist many types of businesses and organisations to effectively grow their business, prevent stagnation in communications and product and align their business better to current and future trends.

If you are about to start work or are already working this programme is a useful consideration to improving your career options, perhaps fulfilling a lifelong ambition to set up a company successfully, work at strategic level within a large scale organisation and problem solve the way it communicates or manage a marketing team to deliver successful campaigns which have considered all possible challenges. Other career options include working within established and fast growing businesses across industries and sectors or agency work which allows for a longer term approach to client work.

Your programme of study

The increase in environmental regulation and concerns globally about climate change, distinction of species, deforestation, loss of green belt and more has lead to an increased focus about how best to manage environmental issues longer term. Many organisations across all sectors have found successful collaborations and partnerships have not only helped them manage risk but improve their learning's within environmental management. As population increases there is more demand on planning to provide an effective level of environmental understanding and knowledge. Often this relationship between planning and environment has been fractious due to economic benefit arguments or other planning benefits.

This has provided a huge gap at times in knowledge transfer at the right times, but in also managing brands and their reputation. The risks are very great if environment is not managed correctly and with proper process leading to bad decision making for future generations at worst, and in the best of situations ensuring correct decisions take place with full knowledge of impacts across a range of partner organisations and their environmental interest areas.

The degree combines multiple disciplines to give you a contemporary environmental context of development from a scientific and social perspective with practical tools to inform decision making.
