Sport scientists support athletes or sports clubs, they generally provide advice and support, designed to monitor and improve sport performance, alongside a team of specialists including coaches, psychologist, performance managers and medical staff. Exercise scientists are more concerned with improving a person's health and helping them recover from illness through a structured programme of physical activity and other health-based interventions. This is a stimulating and challenging programme, integrating theory and practice in the discipline of nursing. Clinical nursing practice is at the centre of the programme and takes place in a variety of settings in the Leeds area. It includes regional healthcare specialities, such as renal, liver, neurology and cardiac.
You’ll study at the University campus and through our Virtual Learning Environment. You’ll experience a variety of different field-specific clinical placements, including acute and long-term settings, and will care for people in hospital and in the community.

The first year of the course is designed to introduce you to theoretical knowledge, skills and attitudes required for clinical practice. Underpinning subjects, such as biology, sociology, psychology, communication and the theory and practice of nursing, are taught via a level 3 (degree level) module. You spend time in clinical practice in this year, where you'll develop a number of nursing skills and apply your theoretical knowledge.
Over the next two years of the programme you'll further develop your knowledge and skills, but more specifically in relation to adult nursing. The first module of this year will be at level 3, but all remaining modules will be at Master’s level. You study modules specific to nursing, as well as more generic leadership and research modules. You’ll have access to modern School of Healthcare facilities.
There is the opportunity to study an optional module from a menu centred on either research, advanced practice or management. The optional modules include the opportunity to have an observational placement abroad.

If you are a therapeutic radiographer, dosimetrist or other healthcare professional working in radiotherapy and oncology, this course can help you develop your knowledge of radiotherapy planning. It’s a highly focused course that gives you a thorough understanding of the key practices surrounding simulating and evaluating radiation doses for radiotherapy.
You gain an in-depth understanding of current and future radiotherapy planning issues and, crucially, develop the ability to apply critical thinking skills to practice. You gain general critical thinking and literature skills as well as more specific planning theory and plan evaluation skills.
Your studies cover core modules involving fundamental planning theories, plan evaluation, advanced planning and image guided radiotherapy. We also introduce you to research skills, which you use to produce a final dissertation.

3D design at postgraduate level includes 3D modelling, animation, video and motion graphics. Modules are designed to meet current industrial needs, technology and practice.
The programme offers four specialist pathways; Virtual Environments; Architecture; Computer Games and Visual Effects.
There are six taught modules, each module is taught over a twelve week period. Each week consists offormal lectures, lab work, tutorials and private study. On satisfactory completion of the modules,you proceed to a major project and submit a final dissertation for examination. This is completed overa three month period following the taught modules.
Digital Media Technology and Development
An introduction to digital media hardware and software tools, and methods of production and organisation. The student will learn 3D visualisation and animation techniques using the latest 3D software applications.
Digital Video and Motion Graphics
Develop skills and practical knowledge of digital video/film productiontechniques and the association of digital motion graphics media production.Application of creative technique will cover elective areas such as short filmproduction, documentary production, 3D animation composition, titlesequence generation and abstract motion graphics effects.
Digital Media Publishing and Commercialisation
Progress the work of the Digital Media Technology and Development module of Trimester A. The intention is to provide a full understanding of the subject material relevant to the development of a broadcast level digital media project.
Digital Portfolio and Industrial Production Techniques
This module will provide practical knowledge of digital media publishing techniques suitable for the production of portfolio media. Students will investigateand demonstrate knowledge of a range of digital media tools and techniques for the promotion of skills within a portfoliopresentation. Critical analysis of various types of digital media delivery platforms,copyright issues, and digital marketingstrategies will be covered. This modulewill also provide an overview of how 3Dmodelling and animation fits within the context of the particular industry sectorwhich is relevant to the students areaof specialisation.
Research and Project Methods
This module aims to provide students with the background knowledge and skills that, in combination with the technical skills acquired in other taught modules, will enable them to carry an MSc dissertation through to a successful conclusion. Students will study all aspects of the processes underlying both capstone projects and research projects, and will relate these to available tools, ethical considerations and professional issues.
The Project acts as a vehicle for extendingthe knowledge and understanding of thestudent and the technical community insome specialist technical area. It serves,through its length, complexity andrigour, as a suitable vehicle for extending,in the student, a range of personal,interpersonal and communication skills.In addition, it serves to develop andextend a range of high-level thinkingskills, including analysing and synthesisingskills and affords the opportunity for thestudent to demonstrate initiative andcreativity in a major piece of technologicalwork. The student has the option of awritten dissertation or a dissertationby film.

This full time course will cover the practical, theoretical and technological aspects of 5G Communications Systems as they evolve over the coming years.
You’ll gain expert knowledge of the latest technologies that will drive the next mobile, wireless and communications revolution, and evolve our current 4G environment to 5G communications enabled systems. Applications will cover robotics & autonomous systems, UAVs, immersive systems and augmented realities, health monitoring, cyber-integrated systems, and smart grids. Data handling of the expected 50 billion IoT (internet of things) devices coming on-line to monitor traffic, weather, environment, smart agriculture, and even when your fridge runs out of milk, will also be explored.
5G will provide greater capacity, improved reliability, support at higher rates of mobility, and wider geographical coverage, at even higher data speeds and throughput and many new services and facilities.
On the course you will engage with experts and specialists whose integrated knowledge will enable you to gain the skills, knowledge and expertise to be part of the definition of the next generation of mobile and wireless communications. These will include:
There are two semesters of compulsory and optional taught classes, followed by a three month summer research project working in a core area of 5G Communications system design, either in the Department or with an industry partner via an internship.
Facilities for research projects are extensive and these will allow you to choose to work on projects in a wide variety of areas such as physical and MAC layers (e.g. Advanced LTE) from IoT, cybersecurity, dynamic spectrum, massive-MIMO, low latency communications, or in applications such as smart agriculture, environment monitoring, computer vision, communicating radar, satellite systems, automotive, driver-less cars and of course some application domains yet to be established with the advent of 5G!
We have an extensive set of teaching spaces and learning environments alongside a dedicated Masters Project and Study Environment for self-study and group working.
We work closely with a number of industry partners, and our state-of-the-art facilities include wireless and mobile radio hardware and software, FPGA and SDR systems, supported by companies including EE, Vodafone, Xilinx, Cisco, MathWorks, British Telecom, Intel, Lime Microsystems , Analog Devices and many smaller companies and organisations. Our research laboratories include our Signal Processing Design Lab; Image and Vision Processing Lab; White Space Radio Testbed, IoT Test Facility, RF anechoic room, and so on.
We use a blend of teaching and learning methods including interactive lectures, on-line video lectures, problem-solving tutorials and practical project-based laboratories. Our extensive teaching and project facilities include state-of-the-art Software Defined Radio laboratories, IoT and networking capabilities, Computer Vision laboratories, alongside satellite and sensor equipment.
Each module comprises approximately five hours engagement per week. Some classes are presented in traditional lecture-tutorial-lab style, and we also offer a number of “flipped learning” classes whereby lectures are delivered through complete on-line video sets, with complementary in-class discussion and review seminars held each week to discuss relevant topics and subject matter.
To enhance your understanding, you are expected to undertake a further five to six hours of self-study, using our web-based virtual learning environment (MyPlace), research journals and library facilities.
The teaching and learning methods ensure you'll develop not only technical engineering expertise but also communications, project management and leadership skills.
Interaction with industry is provided through our internships, teaching seminars and networking events.

A variety of assessment techniques are used throughout the course. You'll complete 120 credits of taught modules. Each module has a combination of written assignments, individual and group reports, oral presentations, practical lab work and, where appropriate, an end-of-term exam.
