Why study a Masters in Marine Sciences?

## The main aim of these courses is to equip you with the skills to understand, develop and monitor the influence of anthropogenic (human) factors on marine environments. This includes an investigation of issues such as coastal erosion, maritime transport, pollution, and climate change. A range of tropical and temperate habitats such as coral reefs and benthic areas may be examined, particularly their physical, chemical and biological properties. This includes undertaking survey and sampling techniques, from bioimaging and radiochemical analysis, to marine mapping through remote sensing and GIS (geographical information systems). Careers are highly varied and may include marine agriculture, conservation practise, environmental monitoring and consultancy. They may also include policy-making and legislation for agencies and local government, journal editing and scientific writing, or laboratory research.
