What will I study?

Our part-time MSc Project Management course is taught at our London Campus by our experienced academics and expert practitioners.

This MSc in Project Management will focus on developing your competence as a well-rounded project or programme leader alongside the wider leadership and management skills required to succeed in any organisation or sector.

Key study areas include risk and value management, project economics, project strategies, sustainable project management, and partnership and collaboration. You will develop your knowledge within the context of project environments, highlighting the importance of people and project teams in achieving success. How will I be taught and assessed?

This part-time programme is designed to allow you to fit your studies around your busy schedule and as such this work related award is delivered across 18 weekends over a two year period. It is also designed to allow you to relate your assessments back to your workplace, projects and programmes you are familiar or organisations in which you aspire to work. The programme is assessed through modular assignments and a final dissertation, with no examinations.

Overall, the programme uses a combination of teaching and learning materials and techniques including:

-Workshops delivered at weekends to enable face to face learning and interaction with fellow learners and tutors.

-Self-study materials, providing knowledge and understanding, and helping you to apply ideas to your workplace.

-Work-related assignments that give you an opportunity to develop and demonstrate your knowledge and understanding and provide evidence of competence.

-Face to face or on-line tutorials where required to support your learning.

We offer extensive student support in and outside of the classroom with a dedicated student support team based in London.

Modules

You will study a range of topics across an intellectually stimulating set of modules designed to provide you with a thorough understanding and expertise in various management issues. You can expect modules such as Project Change, Risk and Opportunities Management and People in Project Management. You will also complete a final Research Project, giving you the opportunity to investigate an area of particular interest and demonstrate academic excellence.

As part of our popular range of ‘Business with’ Masters programmes, the MSc Business with Marketing Management with Advanced Practice programme is designed to give you an insight into the strategic role of marketing within organisations. During this course, you will build the required knowledge and skills to strategically analyse and evaluate organisations to develop and implement competitive marketing strategies. The Advanced Practice element of this programme will enable you to extend your studies to include either an internship, or an applied group consultancy project working with a real organisation on a live business problem, developing valuable work experience and business insight.

Advanced Practice stage

This stage of your programme offers you the opportunity to secure a 12-15 week internship or complete a group consultancy project, giving you experience of the workplace environment or live business issues, both an excellent way to put your learning in to practice.

The full duration of your programme depends on your start date:

-September start dates: your programme will last up to 21 months. You will have a summer break after Semester 2, and commence your Advanced Practice stage in September.

-January start dates: your programme will run for 16-18 months. There is no summer break included in this programme for those starting in January. Your Advanced Practice stage will commence in September.

-May start dates: your programme will run for 16-18 months. There is no summer break included in this programme for those starting in May. Your Advanced Practice stage will commence in January.

Internships

If you undertake an internship as part of this stage, it may be paid or unpaid, and will last 12-15 weeks. The internship can be sourced by students or the University. We will support you in the application process and equip you with the necessary internship application and selection skills (e.g. CV writing, interview techniques etc). All internships will be approved by the University to ensure that they offer you an appropriate learning experience and working environment. During your internship, you will be allocated an internship tutor who will visit you during your internship and support you in completing the internship assessment.

The module is assessed by a reflective portfolio which is focused on your development via this employment opportunity.

Consultancy project

The alternative consultancy module allows you to work in teams with a business organisation, working on consultancy-based projects on real business scenarios.

How will I be taught and assessed?

This course is taught using a range of methods, including: lectures, seminars, and workshops, where you will develop your understanding of today’s global businesses. You will be expected to engage in further independent study, involving directed and self-directed learning, to further build your knowledge.

Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is embedded throughout the course with tools such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists that will guide your preparation for seminars and independent research.

Significant emphasis is placed on developing your ability to complete a Masters degree. As part of induction you will be made fully familiar with the learning resources and support available to you. There will also be weekly academic support sessions designed to build your confidence and ability as a postgraduate learner. You will also be allocated an individual guidance tutor at induction. You will meet this tutor at regular intervals across your period of study.

Assessments for this course are based on a mix of assignments, presentations, exams, and group work.

Careers and further study

Graduates on the programme have joined a wide range of businesses, including graduate training schemes. A significant number of graduates have gone back to work for a family business or even started up their own businesses.

Upon successfully completing your course, you may undertake further professional development and training through Professional Pathways programmes. What will I study?

The MSc Business with International Management is designed around a set of modules that are common to all the ‘MSc Business with’ programmes. These modules cover general business functions, strategic management and organisational analysis. These will develop your strategic awareness, leadership potential and understanding of the theory and practice of international business. In the second semester you will be given the opportunity to specialise in International Management.

In the final semester you will complete your research and write your dissertation. Every student has a personal research supervisor and will be required to submit an assessed research proposal prior to embarking on the dissertation itself.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Your teaching and learning for the MSc Business with International Management takes place in seminars, lectures, tutorials and workshops. In addition, you will be expected to engage in independent study involving directed and self-directed learning.
