This MA in the History of the British Isles will deepen your appreciation of the distinctive political, social and cultural aspects of the British and Irish historical experience, from the Reformation period to the present day, while also fostering your awareness of values and experiences the British and the Irish share with their European and global neighbours.
Our master's offers an exciting opportunity to study medieval history at a world-class university, internationally recognised as a centre of excellence with expertise spanning the whole of the Middle Ages, from the late Roman Empire to the beginning of the Renaissance, spanning Britain and continental Europe. .
This MA pathway combines close reading of canonical and non-canonical writers with interdisciplinary study of the broader culture of the 18th and early 19th centuries, examining the history of literature and criticism alongside developments in philosophy, politics, history, and other art forms.
This MA equips students with the skills necessary for advanced medieval and renaissance scholarship. A wide range of historical, literary, palaeographical, art historical and archaeological modules enables students to explore the aspects of medieval and renaissance culture in which they are interested.
