MAPS aims to provide an in-depth understanding of:

The objective of the Master is to provide participants with the skills to successfully work in the field of European cooperation, through the use of funding for education, training, culture, research, development and external cooperation made available by the European Commission.

The Master provides participants with the skills to:

- analyse the current European funding opportunities and calls for proposal
- develop effective project ideas
- create transnational project partnerships
- fill in the application form for the submission of European projects
- organize and plan the Financial Aspects of the project
- manage the European project’s activities
- manage relations with the partnership and with the European Commission /Agencies

ORGANIZATION

The international Master in European Project Planning and Management has a total duration of 5 months (800 hours) organized as follows:

- 2 months of classroom based training and project work. The classroom based training has a duration of 8 hour a day, from 9.00 to 13.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00. The classroom based course is held in Florence (Italy). The classroom based part of the Master course is held at Pixel, in Florence (Italy).

- 3 months of internship, in public or private organizations. The intern works as an Assistant European project manager. The internship is held in one of the partner organizations based in one of the European Union’s member states.

METHODOLOGY

The approach used is highly practical, based on the expertise of the course trainers who have 15 to 25 years experience in European project planning, management, assessment and auditing.

Practical simulations are carried out for each topic analyzed. The objective of the practical activities is the simulation of the planning and management of European projects. At the end of the Master, every work group will have produced: a European project including the application form, budget, transnational partnership, administrative requirements, supporting documents etc.

INTERNSHIP

The Master offers the participants the opportunity to carry out a three month internship abroad in one of the European Union’s countries. The organizations hosting the students for the internship are all actively involved in European projects. Every student carries out the internship with the role of Assistant European Project Manager. The internship therefore gives the participants the opportunity to immediately put into practice the skills acquired through a direct involvement in the management of European projects.

The Master in International Cooperation and Development (MIC&D) offers a privileged framework for designing tentative solutions to poverty, inequality, conflict, instability and uncertainty which still affect the everyday life of a majority of the world population.

Learning objectives

The Master trains professionals to contribute to development cooperation with creativity, personality and competence by interpreting local and international events, interacting with stakeholders, identifying and managing environmentally and local culture-friendly interventions. This Master provides students with multidisciplinary training and specialized technical and managerial competences.

The Master in International Cooperation and Development is structured as four complementary levels, fostering multidimensional training and integrating scientific methodologies and operative competences.

3rd level and 4th level - Project Work and Internship

Students are required to develop a personal research project on a topic related to development cooperation, under the supervision of a MIC&D professor and/or a professional from a partner institution. 3rd level - Project Work

4th level - Internship

The MA programme in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance is a contribution to developing a universal culture of human rights such as highlighted by Unesco and the United Nations. Accordingly, it has a strong policy- and action-oriented approach. This master's degree is in full continuity with previous post-graduate programmes in human rights, taught in Italian, that the University of Padua has been delivering since 1988.

The MA is aims at developing ad-hoc knowledge and skills to promote and fulfil human rights within the broader context of legal and political processes and multi-level policies. Human rights law, multi-level governance framework, and the concepts of “human development” and “human security” are the paradigm of reference throughout the course.

The multi-level approach makes it possible to combine international trends analysis and an in-depth study of local policies. The course's research and lecturing activities reflect the transnational and transcultural dimensions of human rights studies.

Courses, in English, are in seminar form and promote the active participation of students in class. Internships in qualified agencies, and supervised research are encouraged. The programme includes special modules with the participation of practitioners of European and international organisations and academic institution. The course encourages study experiences abroad financed under student mobility programmes and bilateral agreements. Up to five students of the Master's degree may obtain a double degree in international relations spending the second year of the course at the Polish University of Wroclaw.

The course promotes extra-curricular education opportunities in cooperation with the Human Rights Centre of the Padova University and other non-academic institutions and bodies. Such initiatives include a study trip to United Nations and European Human Rights bodies.

The Programme assists students to find suitable internship opportunities with qualified governmental and nongovernmental institutions, in Italy and abroad.

The MA is aimed at training specialised operators for qualified positions in the field of multi-level governance connected to the implementation of human rights.
