You will take a research-by-design approach in a studio environment to help you develop your own specialism and research-based study.

We offer an international perspective on design and you will be encouraged to develop exciting design-led propositions on issues such as environmental sustainability, urban resilience and resource depletion.

You will study three themes - sustainable urbanism, facade design and architectural interiors. You will complete introductory and advanced projects in your chosen theme and, at the end of your course, you will have the opportunity to exhibit or publish your thesis work.

The Leeds School of Architecture, Landscape and Design at Leeds Beckett is well recognised within the three specialist areas. We have world renowned practitioners and academics in sustainable urbanism who have won international design competitions and have worked with and for leading design firms, such as Bauman Lyons Architects and MacCreanor Lavington.

The facade design tutorial team have worked on innovative designs for firms such as Foster, Atelier One, HOK, Ian Simpson, and Zaha Hadid. The architectural interiors team consists of practitioners, academics and designers, who specialise in themes such as building reuse and museum and exhibition design. Many of the students undertake live projects or competitions.

The creative practice of design is central to our course, giving you a great insight into conception, elaboration and production of the spaces, buildings, cities and landscapes that make up the built environment."

Craig joined our University in 2010 and has a background in structural engineering. He has a strong interest in closed loop urbanism – a concept that by understanding material resource flows within city, it is possible to create a zero waste system. Craig also helped to found the Leeds School of Architecture's Live Project Office which engages in community-based projects, using architecture as a catalyst to positively transform local neighbourhoods in economically deprived areas.

Study alongside like-minded students in a creative environment on a dynamic course that explores the theories and new ideas in contemporary art, graphic design and curating. You can choose to specialise in one of the three areas, with your previous experience, study interests and career aspirations determining your choice.

We will build your awareness of contemporary ideas in art, graphic design and curating, and we will develop your working relationships by giving you the opportunity to take part in projects and events in the region and beyond. You can also take part in studio production and a final exhibition where you will showcase your work.

You will be involved in a programme of weekly seminars and workshops, as well as project work alongside your peers, encouraging you to debate contemporary practice. Previous students have taken part in events and collaborations at Leeds Art Gallery, The Photographers' Gallery in London, the European Exchange Academy in Germany and Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

The course utilises global networks by entering into relationships with art institutions, magazines, embeds course projects in major exhibitions and collateral art and design projects. Senior Lecturer, Peter Lewis is a professionally acknowledged international curator with world leading research, invited as artist and curator by major international galleries and museums. Through these connections students' practices are introduced directly through the art and design industry.

The course visiting lecturers include Andy Edwards, a leading graphic designer; Peter Suchin, art critic for Frieze, Alan Dunn, curator, Helen Cross, author, Nooshin Farhid, Iranian filmmaker. Students are encouraged to meet with artists after the lecture to discuss their work. Also the journal /seconds, edited and published by Peter Lewis, with an editorial board of world leading researchers, provides students access to the debates and theories that will enable their developing practice.

Develop your confidence and expertise in providing art therapy for people with different emotional and mental health needs. Many art therapy clients are socially excluded, so you will learn to become a practitioner who contributes to future service provision by working alongside clients and making changes in their lives. You will develop your knowledge and experience by studying the theories behind art therapy and through practising in the field.

You will take part in a placement organised by course staff and lasting between 100 and 120 days. This will give you first-hand experience in providing art therapy for clients in a range of settings, helping you achieve a good standard of proficiency in line with the requirements for registration with the Health & Care Professions Council.

At the Northern Film School you will have the opportunity to explore and communicate a subject you are passionate about. We support all types of filmmaking from campaigning and issue-led films to observational and character pieces and experimental films to wildlife documentaries. You will develop and pitch your ideas and successful ones will be made into Masters Projects and given real production budgets.

Martin is an award-winning film editor and documentary collaborator. He was a film editor at the BBC for seven years before working as a freelance editor on dramas and documentaries for major broadcasters. His work includes the BBC series 'Bombay Railway', winner of a Royal Television Society (RTS) award for Best Documentary in 2008, and feature length documentary 'Bloodshot: The Dreams and Nightmares of East Timor' which won the RTS award for Best Documentary in 2013.

There are two production studios within our Electric Press building. The studios are of a significant size, giving you the opportunity to explore film set design and prop building.

You will gain practical classroom experience, hands-on development of multimedia resources and materials development. There is the opportunity to pursue a specialism, such as ESOL, English for Academic Purposes, Teaching English to Young Learners or teacher training.

We currently offer two routes of study:

- Route One

This route is designed for experienced English language teachers, who are native speakers or have a high level of English. It will offer you professional training and development (including teaching practice) and can include entry for the widely recognised Delta qualification. If you already have the Delta or an equivalent qualification you can enter directly into semester two of this route or study with us by distance learning in September or January, with an expected completion time of approximately 18 months.

- Route Two

This route will offer you practical classroom experience, observation and language awareness for teaching purposes. It is designed for native and non-native speakers of English with some experience of, or an interest in, English language teaching. You can study this course full-time, part-time or distance learning in September or by distance learning starting in January, and you can expect to complete the course in approximately two and a half years.

- Teaching and Learning

Learning will take place through seminars, small group and individual tutorials, as well as independent learning. The course will include practical classroom experience and hands-on development of multi-media resources for English language teaching.

- Assessment

The assessments on the course aim to reflect real-life tasks for English language teaching professionals and include practical assignments such as developing resources, writing journal articles, giving conference presentations, reflecting on practice and analysing texts or language. The dissertation module involves a practical or research project related to English language teaching with a report or rationale. Route 1/Delta students will also complete the Cambridge ESOL assessments for Delta modules 1-3.

- Research Excellence Framework 2014: twice as many of our staff - 220 - were entered into the research assessment for 2014 compared to the number entered in 2008.

Drawing on the expertise of Leeds Beckett's Built Environment academy and its research team with their European and UK Government contracts and many links with local economic partnerships, local authorities, social enterprises and leading housing companies, this course enables you to network with key players in urban management and build your contacts.

Our course is accredited by two professional bodies: the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).

When you graduate you will be eligible for chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing and licentiate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) which is the main pathway to qualify as a Chartered Town Planner.

Policy Implementation & Appraisal (20 Credits)
You will develop a critical awareness of the political, material and organisational context for policy implementation and evaluation by considering the roles and functions of its key players and influences of previous policy outcomes.

Dissertation (40 Credits)
You will develop and enhance your research skills and capacity to conceptualise and theorise in an area of housing policy or urban management of your choice. We will help develop you into a critical, competent and reflective practitioner who can perform effectively within a business partnership perspective and demonstrate the capabilities required for membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). You will gain a clear understanding of a broad range of HR, managerial and business principles, practices and competencies.

We have been successfully delivering personnel and HR programmes for more than 40 years and the quality of our provision has been recognised by the CIPD and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. You will explore ways of understanding the self as an open, evolving project that develops through interaction. This reflects developments at the leading edge of psychology, drawing upon insights from the history of human exploration of the self.

You will explore the relationship between psychology and cultural studies, philosophy, theology and social science. Our course is highly flexible - we will base your learning around your interests and personal development needs. There is the option of studying individual modules if you are looking to focus on a particular area of interest relevant to you or your career, and negotiated assessments are available for all modules, with an Independent Project module tailor-made for your needs such as a voluntary placement or work related research.
