Richmond is the only university in the UK that has developed a very successful US- accredited undergraduate programme in International Sports Management. Building on this success, Richmond’s one year master’s programme provides students with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of sports management and football culture in the UK. The programme is located in Leeds in the North of England and aims to develop your understanding of sports management in an international context with a focus on football (soccer). Our Master’s degree in International Sports Management builds on our teaching and research success and provides graduate students with a programme of study that is underpinned by the best sports industry practice, knowledge and partnerships

There is a non-mandatory co-curricular sports component to Richmond’s MA Internationals Sports Management programme that will contribute the development of your practical skills (football training, playing and coaching). The programme provides students with an opportunity to acquire the practical skills as well as a learning environment in which you are encouraged to think strategically about sports management in the context of business development and management of the competitive game environment.

Industry Networking & Internships

MA International Sports Management can help you develop your career. You will learn the latest practices and skills required for employment and you will also have the chance to get hands-on work experience in a three month integrated internship in Leeds or London. Our course offers improved career opportunities with the added bonus of experiencing the great city of London, the home of world renowned sporting organisations and clubs, and host city to many high profile sporting events.

Drawing from the opinions of industry experts and recent research undertaken by our faculty, every effort has been made to create a masters degree that balances historical perspectives with emerging trends in the luxury brand sector. The programme takes a holistic approach to this growing field, and you will be exposed to concepts from business and management theory, alongside behavioural psychology, psychoanalysis, culture theory, anthropology and design. There is also a strong emphasis on understanding different consumption practices globally – linked to various cultures, sub-cultures, ethnicities, and nationalities.

Assessment

The practical aspect of the course will culminate in an optional accredited internship and mandatory professional research project, including live PR work and journalism and, at its end, a critical reflection which will require students to relate their work to wider thinking about these industries.

At the same time the programme provides an in-depth academic examination of the PR industry and journalism, their histories, how they function in the contemporary world and the role they play in international society and economic life – especially in relation to traditional and new media, business and the full range of marketing disciplines.
