The Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) at LJMU is one of the world’s leading authorities in astronomy and astrophysics. In 2004, LJMU designed and built the Liverpool Telescope, one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated ground-based robotic telescopes. LJMU’s Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering is one of the UK’s leading engineering departments, with wide-ranging links to industry in the UK and around the world.

The Department offers you access to high quality teaching environments and dedicated research laboratories plus a range of state-of-the-art facilities. These include several probe stations, semiconductor parameter analyzers, three-phase and multiphase (five-phase, six-phase and nine-phase), multiphase two-level and three-level voltage source inverters and a three-phase to nine-phase direct matrix converter. LJMU’s Department of Maritime and Mechanical Engineering can trace its roots back to the foundation of the Liverpool Mechanics’ Institute in 1825, and the first Nautical College for the merchant marine in England in 1892.
