The Faculty of Engineering and Technology offers professionally-accredited and industry-relevant postgraduate taught programmes and exciting research opportunities, founded on ongoing research rated as world leading and internationally excellent.

The Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) at LJMU is one of the world’s leading authorities in astronomy and astrophysics. Its work encompasses a comprehensive programme of observational and theoretical research, telescope operation and instrument development, academic learning and outreach activities.

In 2004, LJMU designed and built the Liverpool Telescope, one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated ground-based robotic telescopes. Since then, the ARI has played an instrumental role in the development of a global network of robotic telescopes that have helped to revolutionise the study of astronomy.

The Department of Built Environment at LJMU is one of the UK’s leading research departments for built environment and sustainability research.

LJMU’s Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering is one of the UK’s leading engineering departments, with wide-ranging links to industry in the UK and around the world.

The Department offers you access to high quality teaching environments and dedicated research laboratories plus a range of state-of-the-art facilities. These include several probe stations, semiconductor parameter analyzers, three-phase and multiphase (five-phase, six-phase and nine-phase), multiphase two-level and three-level voltage source inverters and a three-phase to nine-phase direct matrix converter. In essence, LJMU has the expertise and facilities to help you succeed in this dynamic sector.

LJMU’s Department of Maritime and Mechanical Engineering can trace its roots back to the foundation of the Liverpool Mechanics’ Institute in 1825, and the first Nautical College for the merchant marine in England in 1892. Today, the Department is one of the UK’s leading centres for maritime and engineering education.

All of our postgraduate courses are taught by academics active in industry-oriented research and scholarship.
