We live in a data-driven world that’s generating huge volumes of information at ever-increasing rates, via social media, financial transactions, telecommunications, and even scientific discovery.

The emerging interdisciplinary field of data science combines areas of computer science with mathematical statistics and domain expertise to manage and analyze this data.

Though incorporating statistical methods, data science puts a greater emphasis on the specialized computational skills required to manage and analyze big data from sources such as social media, sensors, mobile and transaction data.

Data scientists develop the capability to derive insight and opportunity from the vast repositories of data that many organizations collect. They help organizations in all sectors of the economy to make sense of these very large volumes of data; enabling businesses to gain a competitive edge, governments to deliver more targeted services, and research teams make new discoveries.

Career outlook

As data science is still a new and emerging field, the roles available for data scientists are quite varied and diverse. Program structure

The first year of the program develops a solid foundation in computer science and statistics –

core skills necessary for every data scientist in their professional work.

Students with an undergraduate background in computer engineering may gain some advanced standing. During the first year of this master's degree, students with an undergraduate background in Mathematics will take advanced courses in computer science to supplement their knowledge. While students with a bachelor's degree in computer science will follow specialized courses of applied mathematics in order to get ready for the advanced core courses of the second year.

1 - Experts in Reservoir Engineering (Upstream):

This program trains professionals in petroleum engineering with a focus on reservoir engineering.

As reservoir engineers, they are able to describe the reservoir and to understand its behavior through data acquisition, interpretation and integration considering: rock characterization, fluids characterization and fluid flow in porous media.

Consequently, they contribute, in collaboration with geoscientists, to evaluate volumes of hydrocarbons in place and they state on the natural production mechanisms.

Starting from the understanding of the reservoir, they propose an economically optimized development strategy of hydrocarbon fields and they evaluate the associated reserves and production profile. To do so, they are able to use tools such as dynamic reservoir simulation.

They highlight uncertainties and their impacts on the evaluation of field performances.

They are able to describe drilling activities, well performances and surface facilities for processing and transportation of oil and gas.

Security and environmental issues are also of their concern. They identify the main risks associated to operations and the risk mitigation options.

The master's in public health is a 120 credit program. It includes 3 tracks: Policy and health management; epidemiology and biostatistics; environment and health divided into core courses (40 credits), specific track courses (40 credits), optional courses (20 credits) and thesis (40 credits).

Classes are held over two half days, end of weeks, from 2pm to 8:30pm. Intensive weeks could be scheduled if needed.

The master’s in public health program trains public health experts who can effectively intervene and solve complex problems in public health with the aim to develop and improve the health status of populations at the national and regional levels. This training also aims to contribute to the advancement and the development of knowledge to adapt to changing contexts.

At the end of this training, students will be able to actively participate as leaders in the field of public health in the:
