At IED Barcelona Fashion Management is taught by a faculty body of practitioners from Fashion & Business, through the analysis of case studies and the execution of real-industry projects commissioned either by multinational companies competing in the global economy, or local companies competing in the international markets. All the contents, methodologies and tools are taught from the specificity of the fashion industry. This approach facilitates the training in decision making, placing the students in a real context for innovation and experimentation.

With the aim of giving a broad and complete preparation to develop their professional careers in the fashion market, students are trained in different and complementary fields. The complexity of managing a fashion business requires a proper knowledge on diverse tools, and the ability to apply critical analysis to quickly react on a changing landscape.

Fashion Managers should manage the complete cycle of fashion, from product conceptualization until the product is set on the store and packed in consumer’s shopping bag. The expertise on the fashion market is approached from the key disciplines involved in the fashion system. Experts in these fields will transmit students their experience on fashion trends, process of product design and production, branding, retail and visual merchandising. The awareness on Fashion Culture, complemented with Semiotics, Market Research and Trends will give a proper awareness to understand the target.

Business skills are taught from the perspective of fashion business. Marketing, sales, finances, distribution and supply chain are tackled from the fashion business specificity, from the big company’s perspective, but also giving the tools to undertake start-up projects as entrepreneurs.

Following the learning-by-doing methodology, students are constantly developing projects in teams. The Fashion Management Master students are hosted in a dedicated classroom, a space that it's transformed in an innovation design studio where students experiment with new tools an knowledge, with the guidance of the faculty. Small groups of students in the class facilitate the application of this hand-on methodology.

Leading managers need to have strong personal skills, to head projects involving heterogeneous teams of people. They should be capable to be the reference for the working team, but also transmit confidence to senior positions and investors. Personal branding, people management and creative leadership will be then integrated during the development of classes.

Fashion leaders must be able to communicate very clearly their concepts, either to the business staff or to the working team in order to achieve the desired results. Therefore the students are taught a very diverse set of tools, to train their skills to a level where they can communicate well.

With the aim of creating synergies between future professionals, some transversal activities will be held for exchanging knowledge with students of different programs is part of IED philosophy.

The strength of the Master in Fashion Communication and Styling is the combination of theoretical contents, analysis and study of the manufacturers of the most successful fashion, and practical activities, carried out in collaboration with companies and industry professional practitioners in an international context.

The course aims to form a Fashion Communication Coordinator, a professional able to create and carry on a communication strategy for a fashion brand. Since the visual communication of the brand has now become essential, the course gives special emphasis to the study of styling, elaborated by practical exercises, designed to represent the market values and the aesthetics of the brand effectively.

The fashion communication expert must have a good understanding of the trends of a particular sector of the market, being able to develop new techniques of dissemination of information and to manage communication processes typical of the fashion world.

After an initial study of the fashion industry from an historical, cultural and visual perspective, participants acquire knowledge about the communication process of fashion: from the structure of a press office with his organization and its activities, to the organization and management of a fashion show as a moment of visibility and strengthening of a brand identity up to the publishing world and events.

The teaching methodology examines the communication through different media and forms of expression linked to them (publishing, styling, web, new media, advertising, corporate events).

Part of the course is dedicated to the activities of the stylist: from the structure of a photographic set - organization, technical tools for professional photography and the lights, the still life study - to the iconographic research. The realization of photographic services allows participants to gain experience in the field, applying the theoretical knowledge and practical tools acquired during the course.

The Master culminates in a presentation of the final project, a summary of all the classes in which the student develops the insights gained during the educational pathway.

During the course "The Italian System: from Fashion to Design" we will study the synergistic roles that the areas of fashion marketing play within companies in the implementation of the most appropriate strategies to design new types of products.
In particular, within the concept of brand extension we will face how to develop a project, from strategy and organization to the creation and design of the products to be placed on the market.
It is a multi-faceted activity that embraces "value-added brands", and it is increasingly sought and practiced. In this context, we will learn the most innovative branding strategies for new products: the choice between line or brand extensions, the launch of new brands or sub-brands, et.
The course is structured in a series of "lessons" and a "workshop of ideas" in which information and method blend into the complete picture of the "know how" to work in different kind of teams: companies, professional studios, as a freelancer or as an employee, as a business owner and developer of start-ups dedicated to the fashion and design industry.
The teaching methodology is very innovative as it addresses in a synergistic and transverse way the different topics covered in the course, which are related to each other by a direction that allows the student to determine a long term learning path crossing over all subjects

The Master in Jewellery Design is structured to consolidate the preparation in strategic sectors of jewelry, giving the participants a chance to develop and be ready to respond to different market opportunities.

The pathway of study is developed through direct project experiences in laboratory, learning of traditional techniques, knowledge of materials and new production techniques. The student receives the methodological bases for the creative process and the professional practice, including the ability to present and promote projects.

Special attention is given to the knowledge of the culture, the historical-critical and economic instruments of the sector. The history of jewellery design, in particular, through the analysis of technical and creative evolution reaches the contemporary collections. The course examines in detail the methods and creative processes of design as part of the international jewellery, referring to specific production environments with the example of several case histories.

Design workshops introduce students to the creation of watch collections (for jewellery, fashion and sports) where the study of design is linked to the technical and mechanical characteristics of the components of the clock. Fine jewellery design focuses on the study of gemstones including their characteristics, nuances, colors and market values. The workshop dedicated to Industrial Jewellery Design illustrates the entire range of jewellery, the use of precious and non-precious, unconventional materials, complex surface treatments.

The Master in Jewellery Design is structured to acquire a higher expertise in the three-dimensional design: from a strong knowledge of the geometry to the most advanced construction solutions of the jewel, using specific software. The course is developed starting from a basic understanding of the 3D program and is structured in order to achieve an advanced level of design capability.

Knowledge of theories and experiences in the field of Marketing and Advertising allows students to adopt a new approach in the role of Designer Jewellery, by learning communication methodologies for collections of jewellery and watches created for major brands and for the great diffusion.

The Master ends with a final project, as a synthesis of the academic course, useful later as a portfolio to enter the world of work.
