The target audience for this pre-experience and postgraduate qualification is primarily graduate students who wish to build on their existing learning and have an aspiration to reach a senior management position in an international business. We envisage that graduates of the course are likely to be attracted into a diverse range of International Business environments, including international markets management, international management, international marketing, international operations management, enterprise management, general management, cross cultural management, managing subsidiaries, cross cultural product and brand management and international finance and economics roles. There is also a range of opportunities in the public sector; analytical and promotional roles would be available to the participants in enterprise/industrial agencies and in the educational sector. Overview

The LLM (International Business Law) is a dual masters degree offered by Maynooth University Department of Law and the Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy). The programme will enable law graduates to further their legal education by gaining a systematic understanding of the critical issues at the forefront of select areas of international business law.

The first semester (comprised entirely of mandatory modules) of this programme is taught in Lyon. During the second semester in Maynooth, students choose from a range of optional modules. Certain modules on the programme are run in partnership with leading law firms, offering students the opportunity to apply for work placements at the end of their studies. Students must complete a dissertation during the summer, which can be supervised by either University.

We have also introduced a new separate track to the LLM in International Business Law. In addition to having the option of completing the dual programme, the first semester of which is spent at the Catholic University of Lyon, students will now also have the option of spending the entire year at Maynooth.

Students completing the dual track may be eligible to apply for ERASMUS funding in respect of this programme.

Course Structure

Students complete a total of 90 ECTS over the course of this programme.
Students must complete the World Trade Law and Information Technology Law modules and must complete 30 ECTS in each year. Students must also complete a dissertation (30 ECTS) during the summer of the second year. Applications are invited for this intensive two years full-time programme for finance graduates wishing to pursue a career in the financial services industry or a career in the finance function. Semester 3 of the taught Programme must be taken in the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Moscow. All Modules are taught through English. Students may study for longer than one Semester in the Financial University but must study for at least One Semester in each Institution in order to be eligible for a Dual Award.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the programme will be equipped to work in a number of areas in the financial sector in an international context. Graduates will have a strong exposure to the financial markets and to market instruments. A deep understanding of the workings of the financial markets and financial instruments in the Russian Federation will be an integral part of this degree. Graduates will be equipped to work in roles where analysis of financial and economic information is required, corporate finance type roles in a wide variety of organisations. They would also be equipped to carry out econometric analysis in a research support role in a financial institution. While most students are expected to enter the programme with a view to launching a successful career in the international banking and finance industry, others may wish to use it as a stepping stone to later obtain a PhD.
