Postgraduate students

City offers a wide range of taught and research postgraduate degrees, with every member of the postgraduate community benefiting from outstanding academic staff, comprehensive student support and tailored careers guidance.

A postgraduate degree, whether taught or research provides students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of their chosen subject and explore particular areas of interest, while developing valuable transferable skills, including analytical thinking, research and presentation techniques.

In keeping with City’s close links with business and the professions, many of the postgraduate degrees are offered on a part-time and flexible basis, allowing students to manage their study around employment commitments. City offers over 150 taught postgraduate degrees, each developed by academic staff who are experts in their fields and who possess an in-depth understanding of the graduate employment marketplace.

Department / School information and available programmes:

We are one of the oldest and most well-established Sociology Departments in London, with a long-tradition of engagement with public policy around important social issues.

Our students receive a first-class education that is consistently informed by cutting-edge research and delivered by internationally recognised leaders in their fields.

Our range of courses teach students about the local and global forces which define our lives. They involve a mixture of hands-on and theoretical learning which help students develop the sociological imagination, knowledge and research skills to engage with the key challenges and debates that are shaping policy formation and professional practice in a rapidly changing world.

City’s location in the heart of one of the world’s great cities provides a stimulating real-world environment in which to explore issues including criminology and criminal justice, class, gender, ethnicity, migration, and the sociology of race and racism.

We have particular expertise in quantitative sociology (including survey methods and data analysis), enabling students to develop highly sought-after data literacy and quantitative skills.

At the end of their studies, our students graduate with a highly marketable degree from an institution with an outstanding track record for student employability.
