University Canada West was founded in 2004 by Dr. David Strong, an accomplished academic and distinguished scientist who served as President of the University of Victoria for more than a decade. The vision was to create an independent, accessible university with a practical focus and an emphasis on teaching excellence.

Today, UCW has more than 14,000 students from over 110 countries, leading to a culturally diverse place of learning for all.

The University has two accessible campuses in downtown Vancouver. The campus at Vancouver House is one of the highest-profile developments in the city’s recent history. This campus is located in the Beach district, Vancouver’s newest neighbourhood, and is within walking distance of Granville Island, Yaletown and Sunset Beach. The West Pender Campus is located in the heart of Vancouver’s financial district and is just a few steps away from public transit, including the Waterfront SkyTrain Station, SeaBus terminal and major bus routes. Restaurants, shopping centres, entertainment centres and fitness facilities are just steps away from both campuses.

UCW students have access to a variety of opportunities, resources and support services during their time at the University, including academic advisors, on-campus networking events, peer tutors, student clubs, career development support, international student advisors, 24/7 access to online library resources and more. New students are welcomed to the University with New Student Orientation (NSO). NSO is an online orientation week that offers guidance to help new students transition smoothly to UCW. Students will have the opportunity to virtually meet professors, department chairs, the President and current students. Students studying in Vancouver will always have a plethora of fun, family-friendly activities to do on the weekend and in their free time. In addition to a bounty of activities and attractions and more than 230 parks and green spaces, Vancouver boasts 24 community centres, nine indoor and five outdoor swimming pools and eight indoor ice rinks. The city also offers world-class shopping, gourmet restaurants, outstanding live entertainment, sporting events, theatres, outdoor adventure and amusing sights and attractions, including the Vancouver Seawall, VanDusen Botanical Garden, Science World, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, Grouse Mountain and many more.
