London Met is comprised of six specialist schools, offering a range of courses led by dedicated and experienced teaching staff. We’re ranked ninth in the UK for teaching quality by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024. As well as typical September start dates, a number of courses allow you to start in January. The Guildhall School of Business and Law at London Metropolitan University offers a dynamic and relevant portfolio of challenging business, management, law, language, translation and interpreting courses. These equip our graduates with the knowledge and skills they need to accelerate their professional careers. Expert lecturers, industry consultants and research support our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Leading professional bodies accredit many courses from the School, including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), The Law Society and The Bar Council.

London Met is one of just 22 institutions in the world that is a member of the United Nations Network, providing language students with learning opportunities and specialist training with UN officials and experts. The School has links with businesses who support our students. This support comes in the form of work placements and internships, delivering guest lectures and providing work-based projects. We place great emphasis on developing the employability of our graduates and our connections with many organisations, both nationally and internationally, can help you secure high calibre work opportunities.

We are one of the few universities to offer business students the chance to directly use Bloomberg data, information and analytics. We are a member of the Conférence Internationale Permanente D'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes (CIUTI), which works with professional companies to help provide our translation and interpreting students with key development opportunities. Law students can benefit from a fully functional mock courtroom and all students can gain advice, support, networks, knowledge and resources from the University’s business incubator, Accelerator.

Our School of Computing and Digital Media offers high-quality teaching underpinned by strong industry-relevant research. The School provides undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses that can prepare you for a successful career within one of three subject areas:

- Computer science and applied computing – including computing, software engineering and cyber security courses
- Communications technology and mathematics – including systems engineering, robotics, electronics and mathematics courses
- Creative technologies and digital media – including film, media, games, journalism and music courses

Our courses are constantly reviewed and updated to ensure they're meeting the demands of employers and many have work-related learning opportunities built into the curriculum.

The School is mainly based at our Holloway Road campus, with a small number of courses taught at our campus in Aldgate.

The School has established partnerships with other higher education institutions both nationally and internationally – we have partner institutions in countries such as Nepal, Trinidad, Sri Lanka, Spain and Germany as well as in the UK.

The School presents an annual summer show where students have the opportunity to showcase their work to the general public at the end of the academic year. The show features a wide range of student work including games, high-tech toys, cyber security and electronics demos, music, films and animations. It is an opportunity for students to develop networking and presentation skills, enhance their portfolios, liaise with industry professionals and show their friends and family what they have achieved. Film students also screen their work at the BFI on London’s South Bank.

Our successful Cisco Academy has been in operation since 1998 – it is one of the UK's first Cisco academies with some of the most advanced networking labs in the country. More than 5,000 students have graduated from our Cisco Academy since 1998.

The School of Human Sciences offers a wide range of courses in subjects including applied biology, biomedical sciences, chemical and pharmaceutical Sciences, nutrition and dietetics, and sports science and therapy. Students have access to an impressive range of specialist facilities as well as support from experienced, highly qualified and enthusiastic academics. Graduates of our human sciences degrees have gone on to work for companies such as the NHS, the Nutrition Society, Arsenal and Chelsea Football Clubs, and GlaxoSmithKline, working as consultant nutritionists, sports therapists, lab researchers, food technologists, microbiology technicians, biotechnologists and more.

One of the School of Human Sciences’ greatest assets is our £30 million Science Centre, which features a superlab with more than 280 workstations and is one of the largest and most advanced science teaching facilities in Europe. It also houses specialist laboratories for tissue culture research and microbiology, a nuclear magnetic resonance room as well as nutritional physiology and food technology labs. Students studying sport-related subjects can benefit from London Met’s sports therapy clinic and fitness assessment centre, both of which are found within this impressive £30 million facility.

Many of our human sciences courses are accredited by professional bodies. These include the Association for Nutrition (AfN), the British Dietetic Association, the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The School of Human Sciences is home to a vibrant research community, which investigates and addresses important scientific challenges. The School has also established a number of research centres and groups, including the Lipidomics and Nutrition Research Centre, the Molecular Systems for Health Research Group, and the Public Health Nutrition and Food Microbiology Research Group.

The School of Social Professions offers theory and practice-based courses concerned with rapidly changing policy areas such as education, early childhood, community development, health, social work and youth work. We also offer a range of PGCEs, including PGCE school direct courses which give you the opportunity to obtain your teaching qualification while working at one of our partner schools. Courses in these areas offer exceptional career-building opportunities and London Metropolitan University students studying in these fields have gone on to become teachers, social workers and charity workers, serving society by working for organisations such as the NHS, schools, housing associations and charities.

Taught by a dedicated body of staff with extensive practitioner experience, you’ll be guided through carefully structured programmes designed to prepare you for a progressive career in these areas. Many of our courses are endorsed and accredited by professional bodies including the Health and Care Professions Council and the Institute of Healthcare Management.

Research undertaken by our academic staff is regularly published in industry journals, and staff often contribute to advisory groups, government policy and national television and radio programmes. Active research with an international focus underpins our courses and teaching is enriched by several significant centres of research associated with the School. Transforming lives and making a real impact on society, our research has been applied to innovative training projects, manuals for best practice, tailor-made short courses and executive training.

We make the most of our London location by maintaining strong relationships with partner organisations and professional bodies. The School works with a number of public service organisations including the Youth Justice Board, Skills for Health, the Ministry of Justice and the Social Policy Association to develop bespoke training to meet our students' needs for specific management and leadership development skills.

The School of Social Sciences is home to a vibrant academic community encompassing the disciplines of criminology, policing, sociology, psychology, politics and international relations. Many programmes have professional accreditation including from the Health and Care Professions Council, the College of Policing and the Chartered Institute of Housing. At the School of Social Sciences our aim is to demonstrate the relevance and usefulness of social science as a tool for affecting change.

Using the School of Social Sciences as a forum for academic debate, you'll have the opportunity to explore important concepts such terrorism, gender, religion and domestic violence which can be considered from different psychological approaches and political ideologies. Special events, high-profile guests and student societies promote these debates. Most importantly, you will be encouraged to develop your critical awareness and to shape and challenge contemporary social thought.

Our teaching and research informs and contributes to public debate about important issues. The School of Social Sciences has a number of interdisciplinary centres contributing to research into real-world issues on a local, national and global scale. This includes the significant work of our Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit (CWASU). Our policing and security courses benefit from the John Grieve Centre for Policing and Community Safety (JGC), which has a vision to create a community of ideas and experience spanning students, academics, practitioners and policy-makers.

You will have access to an excellent range of learning resources and IT facilities. For example in addition to the library, online, computer lab and study hub resources, there are a number of specialist resources such as those in psychology. Psychology students have access to an excellent range of facilities including a psychophysiological lab, eye-tracking equipment, a health clinic with cameras for remote observation and a number of computing facilities with specialist software.

The School of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University offers courses across a broad range of subject areas: art (encompassing fine art, photography, English, creative writing, theatre and performance practice), architecture (including spatial planning and urban design) and design, which includes 3D design (fashion, textiles, furniture, product and jewellery), interiors and visual communication.

Learning through practice, playing with process and working with clients; students at the School gain real-world experience in both individual and collaborative projects, engaging with professionals, communities and companies. There is a strong emphasis in our studios on socially engaged architecture, art and design applied to both local and global contexts. The many specialist facilities you could find yourself using include wood, metal and plastic workshops, darkrooms and digital manufacturing technology. Our regular exhibitions, including the famous Summer Show, regularly attract large audiences.
