Employment across the creative sector and in creative roles has grown at double the rate of the economy and provides around two million jobs. The government views creative industries as an important growth area. Within this promising environment the School of Art, Design and Performance offers aspiring creatives an exciting choice of courses designed to provide students with a competitive edge. Our innovative and enterprising environment produces students whose hard work, enthusiasm and talent generate successful graduates and industry award winners year after year.

Study takes place within cutting edge facilities, including our £15 million state-of-the-art Media Factory; the new building helps nurture student, graduate and entrepreneurial talent and has strengthened the North West’s reputation as a major centre for job creation within the creative industries. Students are encouraged to undertake work experience and exploit our strong links with leading companies and industry figures to help them pursue their chosen career. Our staff, many of whom have experience in industry, are dedicated and skilled in teaching and learning skills, knowledge transfer with the business sector, and research – much of which is rated internationally excellent (RAE 2008). They relish the opportunity to share their passion and knowledge with new students every year and look forward to meeting you at one of our Open Days where you can discover more about our courses, uni life and visit our facilities.

We design our taught postgraduate courses to extend your knowledge and skills in areas which you may have studied more generally at undergraduate level. Others are conversion courses enabling you to switch your specialism to a new area away from your work experience or first degree. Many courses incorporate a taught element with individual study, plus a dissertation or short research project. You will be required to undertake an in-depth study of a specialised topic and demonstrate the ability to present your knowledge by submitting a dissertation or project report at the conclusion of your course. Many full-time courses last for one year, but some are in modular form and can be taken over a shorter or longer period. We also offer some courses entirely by e-learning or distance learning.
