About the programme

The Master's programme in Media and Communication combines practical journalism and communication theory, giving you the ideal preparation for your future career, be it in academia or in journalism. Building on your undergraduate degree, you will gain advanced knowledge and skills in selected areas of focus and in the interdisciplinary extension modules.
You will also gain a broad grounding in social science, as the programme's core modules include Communication Studies, Media Studies, Media Informatics and Media Education. This Master's degree builds on the profile of the Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication Studies, which was voted one of the best Media Studies programmes in Germany in the 2011 CHE ranking and has received the Seal of Quality of the German Foundation for the Accreditation of Study Programmes.

The M.A. Convergent Journalism includes the classic media: print, online and audiovisual, which are increasingly converging in the world of media. The target group is graduates in humanities with linguistic competencies who would like to major in one of these three areas: sports/health, business/politics or culture/entertainment.

Location and language

At HMKW Berlin the M.A. Convergent Journalism program is taught in English. The same master program can be studied at HMKW Cologne (Köln) in German language (M.A. Konvergenter Journalismus). The start of the master program at HMKW Frankfurt is planned for October 2017.

The HMKW master program M.A. International Marketing and Media Management conveys analytical, producing and consultancy oriented competences, which are needed urgently in our service and knowledge based economic system, spurred by accelerating digital transformations and growing transnational interconnections. All master programs at HMKW offer interdisciplinary mandatory elective modules as a general foundation. Subject-specific modules to deepen and develop your career skills will be built upon these. The interdisciplinary foundation is made up of modules in legal, technological and psychological subject areas. These modules convey essential competencies for the professionalization of your work with the media. In the subject-specific modules, the master program M.A. International Marketing and Media Management conveys Marketing and Management Basics and then further focusses on Media Management as well as Marketing and Media Intelligence subjects.
