The Master program in International Business at Munich Business School is a postgraduate study program in economics addressed to qualified and motivated Bachelor graduates from Germany and abroad. Practice-Oriented and Customized

The MBS lecturers and professors not only know the business world from books - on the contrary: It is part of the MBS teaching philosophy that only experts experienced in everyday business life teach current and practice-oriented content and methods. The course "Business Project" is one example for the practical relevance of the Master study program. It grants you the opportunity to implement a specific economic project in cooperation with a company. Thus, the acquired knowledge is applied and expanded to a specific case. How You Earn Your Certificate

Online:

EU Business School’s Online MBA is held over three, 10-week terms (90 ECTS) and has the same structure as the full-time MBA program. Average MBA-related work time is around 30 to 40 hours per week for the full-time program and 20 to 25 for the part-time option. Each term, participants take five courses and various seminars online. Coursework includes online team building and group work, peer-to-peer communication, online lectures, active class discussions, on-campus work and case study analyses.

The program web portal is available 24 hours a day, with open access to study materials, syllabi, plans, guides, reading materials, lectures and discussion forums. In addition to virtual access to classroom materials, students can also count on a comprehensive support network.

Online MBA students are required to turn in a project at the end of their final term that will take about six months to complete. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor or mentor who will guide them during the process.

On campus:

After nine weeks of online study, students travel to one of EU’s main campuses in Barcelona, Geneva or Munich to take part in on-campus week. Students are only required to attend one on-campus week throughout the duration of the program. During on-campus week, students meet their classmates and take part in lectures, industrial visits, exams and networking events that complement their online experience.

The International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) is a double degree master program of the International Business School Alliance (IBSA). Upon completion of the one-year program you will receive degrees from two different partner-universities in two countries of your choice.

You may either start your first term in Bremen, Germany choosing the core modules of our full-time master's course and acquire the basics of an MBA. All core modules are of the same excellent quality at every IBSA-partner university.

Or you decide for our specialization in the second and third term and get a sound and deep knowledge of International Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Bremen's location is tailor-made for this specialization and many international logistic companies are situated here. Bremerhaven, the seaport of the free city-state of Bremen, is one of the largest European ports. Among other goods more than 1.350.000 cars are imported and exported every year and its traffic is growing constantly.

IBSA Double Degree Master

Courses are offered under the auspices of the International Business School Alliance (IBSA). The IBSA program offers a set of core modules in term one, followed by a term two specialization consisting of 4-6 modules and a final research project.

Term one provided students with core modules worth 60 UK or 30 ECTS or 12 SH credits, setting the context of the broader field of global business and management.

Term two provides the specialization modules, also worth 60 UK or 30 ECTS or 12 SH credits.

In term three the final research project worth a further 60 UK or 30 ECTS credits or 12 SH is related to the chosen specialist business function.

Students start with the first term at any of the 5 partner universities belonging to the International Business School Alliance (IBSA) and have to change to a second IBSA-partner in the second term. The final research project in the third term is completed at this second IBSA-partner.

After completing the whole program successfully, students receive a degree from both universities, at which they have studied.

The MBA International Management is a state-of-the-art MBA program that prepares managers and future leaders for working in a complex multicultural world. It targets German and international candidates with a non-business degree but offers enough depth for business degree holders seeking to further refine and strengthen their education. Candidates should have a successfully completed first academic degree, at least two years of professional work experience as well as an excellent English proficiency level.

The idea is to provide students with an excellent foundation of International Management knowledge and skills while at the same time providing them with the opportunity to choose two of four elective courses and specialize in a regional market. At the core of the curriculum lies the imparting of knowledge on current business theory and practice by the use of modern teaching methods as well as the continuous transfer of real-world applications. Furthermore, the program covers the area of Social and Self Competence. In this way, students are provided with a toolbox of executive and leadership skills that every modern leader should possess.

Studying at MBS

As with all study programs at Munich Business School (MBS), small and highly diverse workgroups as well as an intimate study and discussion atmosphere create the optimal learning environment. This allows our students to interact closely and collaborate productively with their class mates and lecturers. Program Structure

The MBA International Management (MBA IM) is divided into three terms over a period of 15 months. Each term covers topics from the three major modules Business & Management Knowledge, Executive & Leadership Skills, and International Business Environment. This effective modular structure is the basis for a challenging and compact MBA program, which allows its completion in less than one and a half years – thus minimizing the time our students spend putting their professional careers on hold.

MBA students receive in-class instruction on business topics and executive skills during Terms 1 and 2. In addition, they can choose two of four elective courses. Choices are: Management in Emerging Markets or Digital Business Transformation in the Fall term as well as Social Entrepreneurship or Global Supply Chain Management in the Spring term. Furthermore, they choose one of three International Focuses: Germany and Europe, Latin America, or China. In Term 3, students can opt for an International Immersion studying one semester abroad. Alternatively, they can also choose a Practical Immersion (internship or international consulting project) combined with an international week. Depending on their practical business experience, students may be eligible to waive the practical or international immersion in Term 3. This so-called Fast Track reduces the overall study time to a total of twelve months.

The Master Thesis at the end of the program demonstrates the students‘ profound understanding of current business topics and the ability to apply specific scientific methods to a real-world business situation. The topic will be chosen in collaboration with a company. Therefore, the knowledge and research presented in the thesis are valuable for both the student and their company.

International or Practical Immersion

Internationality and practical relevance are two of the core values of The Munich MBA. This is why MBA students can use Term 3 to choose an individual immersion corresponding to their personal needs. International immersion: Students can extend their international experience by studying abroad at one of our over 50 partner universities worldwide. Practical immersion: Students, who would like to immerse themselves into the practical application of their newly acquired knowledge, may either complete an nternship or a global consulting project. The intercultural programme Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies provides students with key insights into major aspects of economic development in China and Europe. The skills taught include analyses of specific aspects of trade relations and financial flows, and an understanding of the social and economic interrelations between these two geo-political regions.

Profile

China’s rapid economic development, it’s integration into the world market, as well as its significance for the global economy are changing the development of companies and institutions at a national and international level. Europe is still an important player in the world market. Its integration process is difficult but unique. In an intercultural setting, students will learn to describe major aspects of the economic development in China and Europe and learn to analyse trade relations and financial flows as well as social and economic interrelations between the two regions.

The cross-cultural learning and teaching environment is further supported by a mandatory semester in China. The staff involved in the Master´s programme are internationally-renowned academics and senior researchers. An international academic staff exchange is an essential element in the programme included in team-teaching.

Organisation

The Master programme takes two years in total. It begins in mid of September and ends two years later when students present their Master’s Thesis. The programme is divided into four semesters. The first two semesters are spent at Berlin School of Economics and Law. The third semester takes place at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. The fourth semester includes the writing of the Master’s Thesis. It can be studied in either location.

The Master programme is taught entirely in English.

All core courses are given in a seminar style, using a wide range of case studies, presentations and discussions to provide an in-depth review of the material under consideration.

Are you keen to give your studies an international orientation and do business, languages and culture fascinate you? This degree programme is both interdisciplinary and international, giving you the chance to acquaint yourself with business and economics, combined with two foreign languages and a cultural studies focus in a cultural region related to one of your chosen languages. This programme teaches you to think in terms of networks and allows you to develop strong organisational and communication strategies, as well as developing important key skills, such as project management, leadership and problem-solving skills. This is an accredited programme which has received the Seal of Quality of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Study Programmes in Germany.

Language requirements

German at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): As German is the primary language of instruction for this degree programme, you need to be proficient in German to apply (at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, as evidenced by a DSH-2, TestDaF 4×4 or an equivalent language certificate or by a previous secondary or tertiary education qualification completed in German). If you need to learn or perfect your German first, you may be interested in the University's preparatory German language offering, German Courses Passau. Other languages: You should have C1-level language skills in one of the following: Chinese, Czech, English, French, Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai or Vietnamese.

Programme syllabus

The programme comprises four module groups:

A) Core modules
B) Regional area studies
C) Business administration and economics
D) Foreign languages

A) The core modules are further subdivided into two areas: theory and methods as one area and applied skills as the other. You will gain well-founded knowledge of intercultural communication and comparative cultural studies, intercultural management and academic research. Moreover, you will work on a cultural project outside the University and hone transferable skills by choosing your own Key Competencies courses taught by professional instructors.

B) In this module group you will consolidate your knowledge related to your chosen cultural region in up to three of the following subjects: cultural studies, literary studies, linguistics, history, geography, political science, sociology, history of art/visual culture, intercultural communication, communication studies, media studies, philosophy or digital humanities.

C) You will choose business studies or economics modules in this module group: The business modules are concerned with international market-oriented business management and organisation as well as marketing; the economics modules include international economics, development economics, economic policy and behavioural economics.

D) You will choose two of the following foreign languages: Chinese, Czech, English, French, German (for speakers of other languages), Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai or Vietnamese. If you intend to choose the English language option you will need to have advanced English language skills. No existing language skills are presupposed for the other languages (i.e. they are also available ab initio). However, if you do have existing language skills, they will be taken into account by way of a placement test. The subject-specific language programmes are available with a business/economics focus or a cultural studies focus.

You will write your master's thesis on a topic derived from module group B or C.

The program is designed to mold top talents for leadership positions in Europe and Asia. It addresses especially young professionals with a first degree in engineering, social or natural sciences and at least one year of professional work experience.

The richness of the program is based on the unique concept of combining a foundation in the core business disciplines with a focus on either European or Asian business. The curriculum comprises six core modules that will provide you with a general management perspective on business functions and how they can be integrated with a rapidly changing global economy, and two modules in the area specialization “Europe” or “Asia”. Additionally, two elective modules will give you the opportunity to tailor the program to your individual career objectives or organizational interests prior to the final Master Thesis. The program is accompanied by company visits, guest lectures, career counseling and personal mentoring.

Course Content

Module 1, International Communication Skills, aims to equip students with a deepened understanding of the importance of culture and trains students’ cross-cultural competences. Students are further introduced to communication and presentation techniques essential in today’s business.

Module 2, People and Management, deals with differences in work behavior determined by culture, explains how business decisions are influenced by the culture of a respective country, and enables students to develop their understanding of key issues of managing human resources in a global context.

Module 3, Finance and Accounting, addresses financial markets, trade financing, financial control of multinational companies, assessment of investments and risks, capital costs and risks in foreign trade, and is concerned with modern controlling concepts and instruments.

Module 4, Global Business Knowledge, provides learners with a deepened knowledge of internationalization strategies of companies, concepts and instruments of strategic management, and a systematic knowledge in marketing research methods in a global context.

Module 5, Area Specialization I, depending on the chosen focus (Asia or Europe), the module provides an introduction to the economic, political and social conditions of doing business in Asia or Europe.

Module 6, International Business Law and Taxation, introduces basic principles of international business law and addresses the purpose, kinds, regulation and use of taxation in international business.

Module 7, International Project Management, addresses fundamental principles of Project Management, its possible fields of application and its relevance for process optimization of a global value chain.

Module 8, Area Specialization II, is taught to the students based on module 5 and, depending on the focus choice, offers an understanding of the Asian or European economic and business fundamentals.

In modules 9, Topical Specialization I, and 10, Topical Specialization II, students can choose a topical specialization. Currently three topics are offered: International Tourism Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, International Business and Entrepreneurship. Depending on students’ interests more options can be offered from the Master portfolio of the School of International Business.

The Master Thesis Seminar introduces students to academic writing and prepares them specifically for the Master Thesis. It covers the standards in preparing scientific papers, the function of a master thesis, possible cooperation with companies, methods for literature search, and the rules of plagiarism.
In the Master Thesis students have to deal intensively with a research project or case study and put it in writing in the form of a scientific paper.

Students can attend an optional 22-week internship (also in combination with the master thesis) after the completion of the first 10 modules. If it is a professionally relevant internship and includes a written scientific internship report (15-20 pages), students can obtain 30 ECTS credits.

The MBA General Management is designed to give its participants an excellent knowledge base in General Management plus two of four elective courses. It enhances the students’ individual competencies to be emphatic and highly performing leaders, and provides them with deep insights into international markets and cultures. It equips our students with the right tools to excel further in their careers: rigorous analysis, conceptual thinking, and creative execution. They learn, discuss, and apply general management knowledge and leadership topics in a truly international setting.

Studying at MBS

As with all study programs at Munich Business School (MBS), small and highly diverse workgroups as well as an intimate study and discussion atmosphere create the optimal learning environment. This allows our students to interact closely and collaborate productively with their class mates and lecturers. Current business and management topics in a well-rounded curriculum full of real-life applications are taught by a dedicated faculty using modern teaching methods and an interdisciplinary approach.

Program Structure

The MBA General Management is divided into three terms and time for the Master Thesis over a period of 24 months. The program covers topics from three major General Management modules: Business & Management Knowledge, Executive & Leadership Skills, and International Business Environment.

In addition, students can choose two of four elective courses. Choices are: Management in Emerging Markets or Digital Business Transformation in the Fall term as well as Social Entrepreneurship or Global Supply Chain Management in the Spring term. This effective modular structure is the basis for a challenging yet flexible two-year program allowing for the completion of the MBA degree without having to put professional careers on hold. Two International Weeks at SDA Bocconi in Milan and Singapore Management University offer further insights into European and Asian business environments and help enhance the students‘ international networks.

With their Master Thesis, MBA General Management students demonstrate a profound understanding of current business topics and the ability to apply specific scientific methods to a realworld business situation.

Delivery Mode

As a real part-time program, all courses of the MBA General Management are held bi-weekly on Friday afternoons and Saturdays, thus ensuring that our students‘ careers actually benefit from their choice to study – not suffer from it. Each term begins with a so-called Intensive Week, kick-starting the program with a whole week of courses and seminars.
