This MSc aims to provide students who have already studied chemistry to the level equivalent to a good UK BSc (Hons) with the necessary additional skills and depth of knowledge to become professional chemists.

Students take 90 credits of advanced chemistry modules in Semesters 1 and 2, chosen from a wide range of topics and studying alongside our Integrated Master's MChem students. Module topics range from core physical, inorganic and organic chemistry to specialist cutting-edge research areas and choices can be made to suit individual skills and interests. Most modules offered are at M-level although up to 30 credits at level 3 can be taken.

Alongside these taught modules in Semesters 1 and 2, students start to gain relevant research skills by taking a common 30 credit module, PGSC003 Introduction to Research, tailored to suit their particular background and research area.

During the Summer, students undertake a substantial 60 credit research project PGSC004, working in an active research group.

The Ancient World and Archaeology has been studied at Liverpool since the 1880s, so we've had plenty of time to build up an enviable library and a fantastic museum.

The Garstang Museum, which is in the ACE building, has outstanding archaeological collections, along with extensive laboratory facilities for conservation, lithics, geomagnetism, stable isotope, trace elements, finds processing and sample preparation.

More particularly, the programme aims to:

Increase your awareness and knowledge of relevant areas of applied linguistics research and theory

Help you to apply relevant applied linguistics research and theory to the practicalities of language teaching

Assist you in developing a deeper understanding of current classroom methodology, as well as of current developments in testing, in course design and in materials development

Increase your awareness and knowledge of the latest approaches to language analysis, and of their potential for application to language teaching.

Normally you’ll need a first degree and relevant professional experience before applying for this programme.

Our academic staff have extensive experience of teaching internationally and working on projects and have active research interests and publications. The MA in Archaeology is an ideal postgraduate degree if you want to study the major developments in human societies from the origins of settled life to the florescence of the great civilisations.

We'll teach you a variety of practical archaeological techniques and cover in depth the prehistory of the Mediterranean region, the Near East and Northern Europe or Classical Archaeology.

This degree is great preparation for a research degree or, with the practical skills it covers, for a career in archaeology. The problem solving, analytical and team-working skills you'll gain are transferable to other types of employment.

You will take a taught programme of 180 credit points, comprised of 8 modules, each of 15 credit points, divided evenly into 4 modules per semester. You will also be required to produce a 15,000-20,000 word research dissertation worth 60 credits which is to be submitted at the end of the academic year. You will be able to tailor the degree programme to suit your interests and requirements as far as possible within the options available.

We offer a unique breadth of taught masters degrees in Ancient History, Archaeology (MA or MSc), Human Evolution, Classics and Egyptology.

You can configure a wide choice of modules to suit your interests and requirements and there are opportunities to learn different approaches and techniques, as well as ancient languages such as Greek, Latin, Akkadian, Sumerian, Egyptian and Coptic.

All of our masters degrees provide intensive training to prepare you for doctoral research and employment.

The Ancient World and Archaeology has been studied at Liverpool since the 1880s, so we've had plenty of time to build up an enviable library and a fantastic museum.

The Garstang Museum, which is in the ACE building, has outstanding archaeological collections, along with extensive laboratory facilities for conservation, lithics, geomagnetism, stable isotope, trace elements, finds processing and sample preparation.

We also have a GIS suite with facilities for archaeological drawing and offer 24-hour access for taught students to a dedicated Student Resource Centre, complete with PCs, personal lockers, desk space, wi-fi and a networked printer.

Our Masters programmes are designed to equip students with a wide range of transferable skills, with an emphasis on the development of both research and practical analytical skills. They equip students for further study at Postgraduate level (MPhil/PhD) and meet the training requirements of the AHRC and NERC.
