The programme provides existing practitioners with the skills and knowledge to become more autonomous in their roles and have the ability to improve and evaluate services for patients – to become an Advanced Practitioner.

We offer specialist streams in Optometry, Audiology and Pharmacy for candidates who have already completed a Postgraduate Certificate of Higher Education in Advanced Health Assessment elsewhere or for students just embarking on their MSc study. Our programme therefore allows you to “top up” your existing PGCert qualification to either a postgraduate diploma or an MSc. Optometrists and Pharmacists study to become an independent prescriber as part of the qualification. Audiologists can choose from a range of modules to enhance their clinical practice. The programme consists of a training aspect of taught components (3 modules approximately during the first 3 months) and a significant interdisciplinary research project centered towards computational mathematics (9 months)

Research topics are chosen by students from a list of topics mirroring the computational expertise of the Mathematics group and the newly founded Systems Analytics Research Institute at Aston, with Computationally oriented projects in for example, biology, optimization, pattern analysis and physics as well as finance. You’ll gain a thorough understanding and awareness of your chosen area of pharmacy, the research methods required to complete a final supervised research project and an overview of the drug discovery process.

These courses are primarily designed to prepare you for an academic or industrial career in the relevant area. You may be a scientist already working within the pharmaceutical industry or a recent science graduate.

The programme combines a broad- based knowledge of international politics with an understanding of issues and debates in contemporary global and political governance, and fosters students’ own critical analysis of competing scholarly approaches to the study of issues in European and international politics.

You will take part in interactive seminars, discussion and simulation exercises, as well as undertaking group project work. There are also opportunities for individual research and guided study. MA students are a fundamental part of the intellectual life of the Politics and International Relations study group. All students on MA programmes take part in the regular series of guest lectures and research seminars on issues of contemporary political relevance as well as taking part in the conferences and events organised and hosted by the Aston Centre for Europe and by the study group. All students have the opportunity to take part in a week long study trip to visit the EU institutions and related organisation in Brussels.

All students are allocated a personal tutor at the start of their studies; this member of academic staff can offer individual study advice and guidance and is there to help support your studies.

Assessments on the MA programme take a wide variety of forms, ranging from essays and examinations through to policy reports, briefings and campaign portfolios.

Career prospects

All of our MA Programmes equip students with the knowledge and analytical and transferable skills to pursue further postgraduate research or a successful career in the public and private sector. The careers pursued by our students vary greatly, but typical careers include:

The Engineering Management MSc provides knowledge and understanding of the principles underlying the strategic management of businesses. The course enables the student to use the techniques required for the analysis of strategic business issues.

The programme requires the student to undertake 11 taught modules and to complete a major project of approximately 15,000 words. Each taught module involves 22 teaching hours, which may include tutorials, case studies, and guest lectures. The course will run from October to September with examination weeks in December and March/April. The project occupies the final six months.
