Our taught masters programmes are designed to deepen your knowledge in a subject you typically have studied at undergraduate level, although they can in some cases offer a new direction in your academic career. MSc Islam & Christian–Muslim Relations - New for 2020

This exciting taught masters offers a rich and broad study of the Islamic intellectual traditions of scripture, law, theology and philosophy in conversation with Christian thought, ethics and political theology.

MSc/MTh Biblical Studies

MSc Religious Studies

Study a variety of religious traditions, in combination with advanced learning in the theory and method of the study of religion.

MSc Science & Religion

Engage in the advanced interdisciplinary study of science and religion. Explore in-depth the main areas of dialogue between science and religion. Including cosmology, evolution, divine action and miracles, consciousness and the human person.

MSc/MTh Theology in History

Study the Christian past from a variety of perspectives – theological, philosophical and historical – and choose options for special study of themes from the early Church to modern times.

MSc/MTh World Christianity

Our masters is designed to provide expert insight, knowledge and skills to understand the wide range of Christian belief, culture and practice throughout the world, particularly in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

We offer a two types of research-based masters, as well as PhD programmes.

PhD by Distance - New for 2020

For all students the recommended route to a PhD in the School of Divinity is by full-time study based on residence within reach of Edinburgh. However, suitably qualified applicants - whose circumstances make regular attendance in Edinburgh impossible - may apply to study part-time for a PhD at a distance.
