Make Travel a Unique Experience: Study Cultural Tourism

Do you love travelling, meeting new people, trying foreign cuisine and engaging in different cultural traditions? Or perhaps you are the one hosting these visitors, showing them the heritage of your country and providing them with unique experiences that they will cherish forever?

Studying culture and tourism in London at Goldsmiths, University of London can help you experience travelling, the tourism industry, and the world in a different light.

Applications are now open for the MA in Tourism and Cultural Policy programme.

Why study MA Tourism and Cultural Policy?

With increasing competition between tourism destinations, the development of innovative tourism products has never been more necessary. Culture is a key distinguishing product to differentiate tourism destinations – whether by using the historic environment in creative ways or by exploiting contemporary cultural forms.

The study of the cultural sector in developing and managing tourism and hospitality is key to understand how tourism can be a major engine of growth, regeneration and job creation in the 21st century.

What you will study

  • Study the governance of cultural tourism at different spatial levels (from UNESCO to government and local partnerships), best practice in destination management and the development of new tourism products.
  • Learn about the growth and character of cultural tourism and its relationship with the creative industries.
  • Interrogate the notions of the creative class, the creative city and the experience economy which have been used to underpin strategies in cultural tourism development.
  • Explore the relationship between culture, tourism and regeneration.

Our students come from all over the world and from diverse backgrounds. They have a love of travel and their careers combine culture and tourism.

They go on to work in a wide range of sectors including government, arts/cultural organisations, tourism promotion boards, and tourism/travel related businesses.

“Studying Tourism and Cultural Policy has been the most valuable year at university I have spent so far (because who knows, I might go back to university one day).”
- Quote from one of our students

Our staff have established credentials and a wide range of research interests. For example, Michael Hitchcock is a pioneer of cultural tourism studies in Southeast Asia, Sara Linden specialises in cultural tourism and regeneration – she has also ‘infected’ Carla Figueira, our international cultural relations expert, with the ‘Eurovision virus’!
