We've been helping students find the right postgraduate course for over a decade.
This part-time, online modular programme provides masters-level education for general dentists, with a particular emphasis on restorative dentistry.
The structure of the degree is designed to meet the needs of dental practitioners from all over the world.
The programme develops your ability to take an evidence-based approach to restorative clinical practice and to assess and manage patients with more advanced restorative treatment needs.
Our online learning technology is fully interactive, award-winning and enables you to communicate with our highly qualified teaching staff from the comfort of your own home or workplace.
Each course will run over a period of five or ten weeks (depending on the credits) with participation in online discussions and completion of timed tasks being a compulsory part of the process.
The programme is supported by a virtual learning environment (VLE) and all the educational material is available online. Coursework for assessment is uploaded to the site and there is an active student discussion board available alongside tutor-led discussions.
Maintenance of a portfolio of evidence is an essential component of assessment. Students are strongly encouraged to include a reflective element and to maintain a personal journal.
There is a significant commitment of time required to complete this programme and applicants should be aware that they will be required to take part in weekly tutorials and discussions. It is estimated that between 15-20 hours of clinical time and personal study will be required each week.
You may choose to study to certificate, diploma or masters level. There is also the opportunity to register for PPD or CPD for individual courses.
In Year 3 (masters), you will complete a research dissertation or clinical management project and carry out clinical case reports.
An annual summer school will be run in the Edinburgh Dental Institute to reinforce the clinical-skills coaching element of the teaching.
A primary dental qualification (such as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery), or its international equivalent, plus a minimum of one years' post-qualification experience in general dental practice or equivalent.
This postgraduate qualification is evidence of Masters level postgraduate learning and will be attractive for those dentists wishing to be considered for advanced general dental practice progression, salaried service senior roles and vocational training adviser roles.
