We've been helping students find the right postgraduate course for over a decade.
MSc Political Science allows you to develop analytical skills in political science research whilst applying theories, methods, techniques and concepts to current issues.
The flexibility of the programme offers you the opportunity to focus your studies on either data analytics or media and democracy. By opting for data analytics you will work with different types of data for quantitative political research, and will use a range of statistical research methods to answer research questions and test theoretical hypotheses.
By focusing on media and democracy you will study methods of analysing political issues in the modern media environment and will develop the methodological tools required to critically analyse the ways in which the media depict political news, events and phenomena.
A bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) or a non-UK equivalent in a social science, humanities, or other related discipline. Relevant experience will also be taken into account.
IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in each component skill. For other English qualifications, read English language equivalent qualifications.
Throughout the course you will develop advanced knowledge and skills, preparing you for careers in fields such as analytics, media and journalism or the Civil Service.
In addition to your experience on the course you will also have ample opportunities to gain experience, develop new skills and network with employers. You may wish to take on a volunteering opportunity advertised through Leeds for Life, find work experience with the help of our award-winning Careers Centre, or attend a talk from employees in organisations such as the United Nations or parliament – we’ve recently hosted Jeremy Corbyn, Harriet Harman and John Bercow.
The School of Politics and International Studies is offering a partial fee scholarship to international students starting their studies with us in 2019. Find out more.
