School of Mathematics

The School of Mathematics at the University of Leeds is one of the largest mathematics departments in the UK, with over 1,050 students from 60 countries. We’re ranked top 20 by all the major UK league tables (The Complete University Guide 2019, the Guardian university league tables 2019, The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019).

We conduct research across pure, applied and statistical mathematics. Areas of interest include astrophysical fluid dynamics, mathematical biology and medicine, financial mathematics, mathematical logic and industrial mathematics for complex materials.

In the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, we were ranked in the top 10 in the UK for Mathematics for the quality of our research.
