We've been helping students find the right postgraduate course for over a decade.
The School of Chemistry at the University of Leeds is a leading UK chemistry department with more than 70 years of experience in teaching and research excellence. We’re ranked top 10 in the UK for chemistry (Guardian university league tables 2019) and top 150 in the world university for Chemistry and Natural Sciences (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018).
Our world-leading research, delivered via six research groups, cuts across the fields of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. In the latest Research Excellence Framework, 100% of our research was rated as having either an ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’ impact.
Over the last five years our scientific research has led to the publication of over 1,000 journal articles, 13 book chapters, and six books. We’ve also filed 47 patent applications, and received more than £27m in research income.
A Masters course can really help you to stand out in today’s competitive job market. Our courses have been developed in partnership with industry, and our active research environment means you’ll be taught by academics working at the scientific frontier.
You’ll be directly engaged in research through substantial individual and team-based project work, and develop specialist knowledge. This will set you apart from the rest of your peers and help you on your career path.
“New molecules have to be discovered for the next generation of drugs. The course focuses a lot on identifying molecules with therapeutic characteristics.
“I do not like routine and chemistry is not routine. Chemistry is like a mystery to be unravelled. New things come up every day. The deeper you go, the more you want to know.”
Ololade Adeniji, Chemical Biology and Drug Design MSc
The skills you'll develop on a postgraduate Chemistry degree are valued in virtually all areas of life. Upon graduating, you’ll be well-placed to pursue a career as a chemist in the public or private sectors, or to continue your studies with a PhD.
We have well-established links with industry in the UK and overseas, which is one of the many reasons why our graduates are highly sought after by employers such as AstraZeneca, Covance, Unilever and the NHS.
We offer a number of scholarship opportunities to support and reward students from around the world.
