Masters degrees in Environmental Biotechnology offer an integration of bioscience and engineering, administering training in the biochemical potential of microorganisms for environmental sustainability.
Entry requirements normally include an undergraduate degree in a relevant science, engineering or technology subject.
Environmental Biotechnology and Environmental Bioengineering can be applied to a wide range of industrial and commercial practices. For example, you may wish to research the use of non-renewable resources, and learn to develop sustainable energy through bioprocessing and conversion technologies. Or you might choose to explore diversification for conservation and sustainable practise, for example enhancing the biodiversity of marine animals for protection or farming.
Fieldwork and vocational training will enhance your scientific knowledge through activities such as lab testing, data collection, and bioinformatics. Practical engagement with socio-economic factors such as bioethics, commercial-scale biotechnology and business planning is often provided through industrial placements.
Careers may include business roles in product and technology development, management within environmental protection services and conservation, consultancy within government or private organisations, or further research at PhD.
