The PGCE Religious Education programme will support students to consider the pedagogy of Religious Education in depth. Read more
The PGCE Religious Education programme will support students to consider the pedagogy of Religious Education in depth. This part of the course aims to develop and integrate subject pedagogy and theory with classroom practice and equip student teachers with the skills necessary to become reflective and effective teachers of Religious Education.

All Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses at Liverpool Hope offer students the opportunity to combine a programme of theory with real world experience. The initial professional development focuses on what underpins the work of an effective and successful teacher, while school placements offer you the opportunity to put theory into practice. Schools placements will cover the 11-16 age range, along with a KS5 enhancement.

Initial Professional Development (IPD): This part of the programme covers the general, more holistic aspects of becoming a teacher. It is largely lecture-based supported by discussion-based seminars with an assigned professional tutor. IPD develops the student teacher's knowledge and understanding of a range of key issues in education.

We are delighted to introduce our ‘Interdisciplinary Masters’, which is a bespoke programme offering each student a choice of awards, allowing them to tailor the provision to their own research interests.

The curriculum is constructed from 60-credit ‘Blocks’ of provision, from which students will choose two of the combinations permitted. Each 60-credit Block comprises of either two 30-credit or four 15-credit modules.

After completion of the taught phase, students will then embark on the research phase, whereby they will study a Research Methods module and then complete a Dissertation that synthesises the two Blocks that they have studied.

Our mission is to provide a well-rounded education of the whole person which is why we consider our programmes to be Initial Teacher Education and not merely training.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Liverpool Hope University will provide you with a career entry and development profile that will stand you in good stead to develop professionally through your first year of teaching, as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT), and beyond.

As an Early Years Teacher, you will be a specialist in early childhood development, training to deliver the Early Years Foundation stage for children from birth to the age of five. This is a critical stage in children's development

In this role, you will be a graduate leader responsible for organising and leading high-quality teaching practice in early years settings. You will make a lasting, positive difference to children's wellbeing, learning and development.

The PGCE Early Years course lasts 38 weeks, of which you will spend approximately 20 weeks gaining practical experience in Early Years education. Experience is divided into periods of serial attachment (one or more days per week). During these periods you will work in early years settings with the guidance of trained mentors. School and University-based elements of the course are interlinked.
