Masters degrees in Domestic Management provide training in the specific management techniques required for a variety of care homes, including those for children or for the elderly or infirm.
You do not necessarily have to come from a background in caring in order to apply, but an undergraduate degree in Nursing or Administration would be advantageous.
Postgraduate degrees in Domestic Management give consideration to both the social care and administrative aspects of care home management. This includes understanding care home logistics such as procuring and managing staff, managing budgets, and auditing services.
You will also be provided with training in handling care plans for individual clients, working with families and liaising with consultants in order to provide the best facilities and quality of care.
There is also scope to train in management for specific types of care homes. For example, you may specialise in the care of children from abusive backgrounds, or opt to work with adults with disabilities.
With your experience, you could undertake managerial positions within smaller, independent care homes, or take on executive roles for larger care providers.
