Our Mathematics Department and Computer Science Department at Swansea University are highly ranked:

The School of Mathematics and Computer Science at Swansea University is based at our outstanding Computational Foundry on the stunning beach-fronted Bay Campus.

This £32.5 million world-class facility provides the most up-to-date, high-quality teaching and research facilities, as well as offering space for industry partners to collaborate with us, test new ideas and for students and researchers to work on real-world problems in an inspiring environment.

Our fully networked laboratories run Windows and Linux, and support a wide range of software including programming languages Java, C# and the .NET framework, C, C++, Haskell and Prolog. All software is open source and freely available or provided. Our laboratories are continually upgraded to ensure equipment is never more than three years old, and rarely more than two.

Our Research Impact

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), over 91% of our Faculty’s submission to the assessment, over 8 units, was classed as either ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world-leading'.

Mathematical Sciences – We are delighted to have achieved 100% world-leading and internationally excellent ratings in impact, showing that we as a department are dedicated to embedding real-world impact in everything we do. 90% of our research is world-leading and internationally excellent, with an increase in number of our world-leading publications.

Computer Science – We are delighted to have achieved 100% world-leading impact, showing that mathematics has a real and lasting impact in day-to-day life. Our research facilities and environment have enabled colleagues to engage internationally, elevating 100% of the department’s publications to world-leading and internationally excellent.
