The Department of Sport and Exercise Science undertakes high quality and internationally recognised applied research
in the fields of physiology, psychology, biomechanics, health and sport development. We have a well-established
international reputation in the area of thermal physiology and survival medicine.
Our Department has contributed significantly to the sporting success of the University, which is now ranked top 20
for men and women sports in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS). We are particularly strong and
successful in soccer, hockey, sailing, windsurfing and other water sports.
Our researchers entered their work to the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008 under the Unit of Assessment Allied Health Professions and Studies. We are especially proud of our results, with the majority of our research rated ’internationally excellent or world-leading’.
