Welcome to the UCL Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The Department is one of the leading research-led departments in its subject area, worldwide, and has received one of the top two ratings in every UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) carried out to date. It is also the highest RAE rated Electronic Engineering department in London. We continue to push in new directions in both research and teaching, building on our long-established links with industry. We are a major contributor to the newly opened London Centre for Nanotechnology, one of the first Electronic Engineering departments in the UK to introduce Problem Based Learning into our undergraduate courses, and are offering new undergraduate MEng and postgraduate MSc programmes in Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology.
We are proud of our heritage as the first Electrical Engineering department in the UK and our ethos of constant development and innovation continues a tradition inspired by our first Head of Department, Professor Sir Ambrose Fleming, inventor of the thermionic valve and hence the founder of the discipline of electronics. We offer both three year (BEng) and four year (MEng) undergraduate programmes, which are continually updated and shaped by both industrial and academic requirements, as well as a range of specialist MSc, PhD and Engineering Doctorate programmes.
