Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) in a relevant subject. Those with a background in geography, urban planning, transport, or computer science, or who can demonstrate good quantitative and/or computing skills, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants who do not meet the above requirement but can demonstrate several years of professional experience in a relevant field will also be considered.

All applicants must have an interest in learning how to apply data science to tackle real-life urban challenges.

When reading about the different courses I applied to, the University of Leeds’ course stood out to me. It gave me the opportunity to combine the areas of interest I developed during my undergraduate degree.

In the practical sessions you are working with actual, real-world data which gives you experience that you can take into a career. Through different modules you learn a variety of methods to work with data, such as coding and GIS. By exploring different methods, you can really find what interests you and where to look for a career.


These competitive scholarships are awarded in the form of a 10% tuition fee reduction to international candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement. There are limited scholarships available.

To be considered for the scholarship you must:

be classified as an International student for tuition fee purposes

have applied for 2023/2024 entry for a Masters programme included in the eligible courses section

be a self-funding student

demonstrate an excellent academic track record, and be predicted to achieve or have achieved a Bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons), based on the criteria used by the School for offer purposes, or equivalent

show excellent professional and personal skills evidenced through work experience and/or extracurricular activities

demonstrate the potential to contribute to the social and cultural diversity of our Masters programmes and student community.
