Student Profile

Jaime Gomez Diaz

I had already worked in the transport field for some years, so I wanted to study at a prestigious University and Leeds was top for my subject. Applying was easy: the application process, finding information and then the process after applying. The forms were clear and you have your own personal profile on the applicant portal. The University can message you directly to follow up any information and you can send messages if you want to check how your application is going.

When I started to apply to the University I visited the Link to Leeds website and contacted their ambassadors, who were very helpful and answered many of my queries.

I sent a lot of emails to the University and received quick, accurate and friendly answers to each of them. I think it’s one of the reasons I came here because in the beginning, I didn’t know anything about English culture, but from the emails I got, I felt that people were very friendly. They helped me solve all kinds of issues and I started here on time, despite applying close to the deadline. I felt that a lot of people were alongside me, helping me through the process.

As soon as I applied to the University I was invited to many webinars by my future department, the Institute for Transport Studies. I attended lots of them and that was very helpful.

The University also helped me to find accommodation. I live in Sentinel Towers, one of the University’s residences and I’m very happy there. When I arrived students from the University met me at the airport and helped me find a taxi to the residence, where there were people waiting for me. It was a warm welcome – they gave me an information pack and then a tour. They showed me the common areas, the facilities and also the neighbourhood – how to get to the supermarket and public transport. Very quickly I felt familiar with the city.
