About the course

Investigate the interrelationships between your own arts practice and questions arising about knowledge, research, studio practice and performance.

On this course you will address dynamic interrelationships between theory and practice. We put your unique theatre practice at the centre of your learning and give you the tools to develop your individual approach and professional profile. This offers the ideal opportunity for you to create in-depth and professional performances that you will articulate through presentation, documentation and performance.

Entry Requirements

2:2 honours degree in a related subject

Entry onto this postgraduate course is subject to attending an interview.

At interview you will be asked to give a presentation which will:

Demonstrate your readiness for graduate level practice
Show evidence of your engagement with critical thinking

You will also be asked to complete a portfolio. This portfolio should show examples of previous and current theatre and performance practice.

We are happy to arrange interviews through Microsoft Teams for international students.

Scholarships

Alumni who graduated in 2019, 2020 or 2021 from full or part time study at York St John University or one of our Partner Colleges on a postgraduate course can also receive a scholarship for one of our research degrees.

If you were awarded, you can get

Distinction 50% reduction in fees
Merit 35% reduction in fees

These scholarships apply to both our postgraduate taught and research courses (see exclusions below). They apply to courses at our York or London campuses.
These scholarships do not apply to our Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) MSc, Occupational Therapy (Pre-registration) MSc, Professional Doctorate in Counselling or any of our PCGE courses.
The Progression scholarship cannot be combined with the Alumni scholarship fee reduction.

Eligibility

Alumni who graduated from full or part time study at York St John University or one of our Partner Colleges in 2019, 2020 or 2021 can get a scholarship to cover their postgraduate course fees. The scholarship you can get is based on your undergraduate degree award.

If you were awarded, you can get

1st class honours 50% reduction in fees
2:1 (upper second class honours) 35% reduction in fees
2:2 (lower second class honours) 20% reduction in fees

Applying for these scholarships
These scholarships are automatically awarded when our alumni apply to eligible courses. You do not need to make an additional application.

If you have any questions about these scholarships, or feel that a fee reduction has not been correctly applied to your course, please contact our Admissions team at admissions@yorksj.ac.uk.

Eligibility

All of our alumni can get a 10% reduction in their postgraduate course fees. It does not matter when you graduated.

The Alumni Scholarship does not apply to our Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) MSc, Occupational Therapy (Pre-registration) MSc or the Professional Doctorate in Counselling.

The Alumni scholarship cannot be combined with the Progression scholarship.
