Marouso Soufi
I believe that having a postgraduate qualification in TESOL will greatly expand my career options and offer me new opportunities abroad, including teaching at a university in an EFL context or branching out into teacher education and training.
What I particularly enjoy about my area of study is that I can enrich my academic knowledge in language theory and pedagogy and link it to my teaching context. Studying at the University of Exeter has given me the opportunity to meet and interact with colleagues from different parts of the world and broaden my professional horizons.
The University of Exeter is the only institution in the UK that offers a summer intensive programme with face-to-face tuition for teaching professionals. It is ideal for teachers with professional commitments, who do not have the luxury to leave everything behind and embark on a full-time postgraduate course. Even though the summer intensive programme provides the flexibility needed for the busy schedule of a working adult, it requires hard work and does not sacrifice quality.
I would certainly recommend this programme to colleagues who are interested in enhancing their career prospects by acquiring a postgraduate qualification in TESOL through an institution as reputable as the University of Exeter.
Io Fei Lai
I chose to study this programme because I would like to obtain a professional and practical degree in the field of English language teaching. Having taught English for four years and acquired the basic techniques of teaching, I felt the need to pursue professional development in theories and principles, so that I can reflect my practice and make better planning and decisions in my teaching context.
The lecturers, who have teaching experiences all over the world, provide not only introductions to the theories and principles of the subject but also insights into teaching in different cultures and contexts. This sharing of teaching experiences is further enhanced by having a group of teachers from a variety of backgrounds studying the same programme. It is this sharing and discussion of teaching practices which makes this summer intensive programme special and enjoyable.
The University of Exeter has a great reputation for its research quality and student satisfaction. In fact, the summer programme allows me to pursue a professional degree without quitting my job. Moreover, due to studying and teaching at the same time, I can reflect on my teaching practices and improve my teaching through principled decisions, which can hardly be accomplished in a normal full-time programme.
