Course content

In an increasingly interconnected global economy, businesses in all markets must compete in complex supply networks in order to survive and prosper. The effective management of supply chains and logistics are recognised as key factors in sustaining a company's competitive advantage.

You will combine your knowledge with practical tools and techniques of supply chain management and logistics and apply this to complex regional, national and international settings. You will engage in a range of specialist learning which is integrated with core business topics, such as strategy and the improvement of business processes.

Suitable for people from a range of business backgrounds, we have designed this course for both procurement professionals and those wishing to develop a career in supplier management and logistics. It is also suitable if you are from a marketing background or want to widen your business knowledge and profile.

Mature Applicants

Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

You could develop or enhance your career in supply chain management, purchasing management or logistics, or gain greater expertise if you are from a different business background. If you are already a Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply or Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport member, you can apply for standard accreditation of prior learning, be exempt from some core modules and pay a reduced fee.

Course Benefits

A major strength of our course is professional accreditation and the access and opportunity to develop career networks and contacts within these institutions. The additional work experience will contribute to your employability on completion of the course. As the course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), this will enable you to gain the academic element needed to achieve Professional Membership status of CIPS/CILT, and also offers free student membership of CIPS. If you are already a CIPS or CILTS member, you can apply for standard accreditation of prior learning, be exempt from some core modules and pay a reduced fee.

Applied Logistics & Inventory Management
You will carry out a project reflecting your own interests in supply chain, logistics and purchasing, demonstrating originality in the application of theory and techniques.

Business Process & Operations Management
Enhance your understanding of how evaluating, managing and improving business processes in a range of settings drives the performance of an organisation.

Corporate Strategy
Develop a strategic organisational perspective as well as a basis for progression and application of strategic level skills, competencies, and decision-making capability.

Global Supply Chain Management
You'll be introduced to the supply chain concept by observing a variety of companies and how they are changing their business practices to achieve corporate objectives in the current economic climate.

Procurement, Contracts & Strategic Sourcing
Develop the skills to effectively manage purchasing and supply within a business enterprise in order to sustain competitive advantage in a modern environment.

Dissertation
You will carry out an in-depth research project in a subject area that is appropriate to the course and of particular interest to you.
