About the course

Our Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course will develop your scientific knowledge to enable you to undertake a PGCE or School Direct Training Programme and train for a career in secondary Science teaching.

SKE courses are available for all three science specialisms and are intended to support you before you begin an initial teacher training (ITT) course which would lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The condition of entry is an offer of a place on an ITT course.

What you'll study

This 11 - 16 SKE course begins in May 2020. This 200 hour course, delivered over eight weeks, is designed to help you develop broad science subject knowledge and prepare you to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics effectively up to GCSE level.

Entry Requirements

You need to apply for an ITT course through UCAS Teacher Training for either a PGCE or School Direct route into teaching. The training provider will identify the need to enhance your subject knowledge before commencing ITT. They will make SKE a condition of their ITT offer for the following academic year.
