Your programme of study

If you are interested in how countries manage risk associated with conflict in society, peace-building, defence and policies, business and organisational risk in different countries and the current and future challenges to stability within different countries and regions of the world and your special interest is energy you will be interested in this programme which is dedicated to combining the two areas.  Aberdeen is well known as an energy centre globally and it provides more FTSE 100 companies than many cities due to its connections with the energy industry. Many companies have located their headquarters in Aberdeen and other energy centres include Houston, Texas, plus newer global centres situated around new forms of extraction and nearby centres of population. Managing existing industry and new infrastructure can be very challenging in many respects.  Areas for mineral extraction can be isolated and remote or within areas of the world which are also in conflict. In this situation risk needs to be fully understood to support continuous supply.

You study energy security, fossil fuels adaptation, and the complexities of strategy involved in the energy industry with many learning's from other industries. This programme gives you the knowledge, theory and analysis skills to enable you to work in the energy industry and provide advice about risk. You learn the complex issues involved in setting up new energy extraction facilities and managing existing infrastructure in very challenging environments.
