Student Profile(s)

As an international student, I love the inclusivity of the cohort, and the welcoming atmosphere. I’m originally from Singapore, and studied in Beijing for two years as part of my BSc. The air quality here is superb and the seasons that I don’t experience back home encourages me to take breaks from studying, which helps with the study-life balance.

I also really like the intellectual challenge from tasks requiring critical analysis of literature, and have loved the passion of the lecturers when teaching.

The fact that we get black-and-white constructive feedback on assignments and exams has been really helpful in enhancing my knowledge. This was not readily provided in any of my previous study.

One of my highlights has been getting into a dissertation project of my interest, and learning about differences in sports science research from biomedical research. I came here (from a biomedical background) because I was interested in the chance to work on a topic of interest. My dissertation has a focus on biomechanics, where we use 3D motion capture to study gait asymmetry and coordination. We aim to characterize walking and running gait using measures across various domains.

The St Luke’s Campus exudes a note of antiquity from the outside, yet has state-of-the-art research facilities on the inside. The labs are bright, clean, well-equipped, and conducive to work in. The lab technicians have been really helpful in equipment familiarization and booking slots for testing.

In terms of the campus itself, the tranquillity of the campus environment and the nice clean air helps me to concentrate. There is also some nightlife if you fancy, as well as the chance to get involved in clubs and societies. For example, I’ve taken part in the Cheerleading and Gymnastics Club and the Sub Aqua Club.
