(Student Profile)

1980.jpg My studies here thus far have been academically both challenging and stimulating. I chose King's due to its incredible location in the heart of London, its reputation for academic excellence, and from a desire to learn from experts in my field of study. In addition, the department has historic roots in the early development of Hispanic and Lusophone studies as an academic discipline, so its long tradition in this field was a definite draw for me.

Broadly, my area of interest is twentieth century Latin American literature and sociopolitical history, and more specifically, I am hoping to focus my research on relationships between gender and revolutionary movements in Latin American nations in the mid to late twentieth century. The lecturers in the department demonstrate and model their own passion in this area on a daily basis, and collectively possess expertise in a wide range of topics in the discipline, which is reflected in the variety and depth of modules offered.

Outside of my department, I've also taken advantage of the Modern Language Centre evening classes at the great student rate to brush up on my Spanish, and generally, the ease of access to a number of University of London institutions and buildings in the city has been very valuable. In sum, I could not be happier with my graduate experience at King's, and the passion and academic excellence of my department has inspired me to want to pursue academic study and research at the PhD level in the near future.
