About the course
Turn your passion and skill with maths into a rewarding career. Learn to motivate and nurture the next generation of students with a PGCE in mathematics at secondary level.
Our PGCE in secondary-level mathematics prepares you to become a professional, creative and reflective teacher. The course includes two school placements, university-based workshops, plus extensive support in the form of online materials. During your training, you will investigate how to address common errors and misconceptions through pedagogy. You will also improve your core subject knowledge of maths and explore how your skills relate to maths teaching.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
An honours degree in a relevant subject at 2.2 or above
Plus GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent. (We accept equivalency tests from Equivalency Testing for Career Development and A Star Equivalency Testing.)
Candidates must also:
Attend a Selection Day. You will also be required to sit and pass a 30-minute Higher Tier GCSE Maths non-calculator paper at 70%+. Practice materials can be found at AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam board websites.
Pass the professional skills tests prior to starting the programme.
