Course content

The principal aim of the MRes programme is to develop fully trained and competent psychology researchers that have the breadth and depth of knowledge and comprehension of current boundaries of Psychology, and have the necessary skills to identify, uncover and discover emerging areas within Psychology.

Students will be trained in different methods of data collection analysis, applying their knowledge to current issues in psychological science. They will develop practical skills, such as designing and programming experiments, and writing a range of research documents such as reviews, proposals, presentations and research reports, and will also be trained in the ethical and financial aspects of scientific Psychology research.

This programme also serves as a foundation for further studies at Level 8 in Psychology, and will enable graduates to secure professional employment in areas that require advanced research skills particularly in academia, industry, the NHS and elsewhere in the Health and Social Care Sectors.

Students enrolled on this programme study three taught modules in trimester 1, consisting of two core modules and one optional module, and complete a 30,000 word dissertation.
