If you want to work in the renewable energy industry University of Aberdeen offers an online programme which you can study flexibly to fit around your work, life and anywhere in the world. The region offers a renewable energy zone with an offshore wind farm and what is claimed to be the most powerful wind turbine in the world.

Renewable energy engineering is in high demand globally as we find alternate methods of energy harvesting to meet our future energy needs and future proof our reliance on hydrocarbons as much as it is possible to do. Aberdeen city and university utilise the learning from the oil and gas industry and disciplines which serve it to rapidly develop new innovations in other energy sources. Considerable innovation and improvements are constantly being developed and tested as society is not at a stage where it can rely on sufficient alternative solutions. The sector is interdisciplinary and this programme provides you with a wide range of very useful skills and knowledge to problem solve and progress within the renewables industry or even start your own enterprise based on an innovation you may develop.

You study the latest electrical and electronic engineering pertinent to smart grid, sensing energy use, developing energy harvesting techniques, and renewable energy exchange, plus ability to harvest energy from all of our natural resources including wind, solar, hydro, marine, geothermal, biomass and other newly developing areas. Renewable energy demand continues to grow as governments globally now set limits on other traditional sources due to range of environmental and supply factors. The challenge of finite resources, climate change and societal concerns about how we harvest energy in the future and our ability to survive climatic issues, population increase, plus Industry 4.0 is driving real change in how we produce energy.

Learning and application come from the wide ranging and long standing expertise of the School of Engineering at University of Aberdeen and a close relationship with the energy industry located in the city since the 1970s. Many companies are at the forefront of research and development and University of Aberdeen draws from its wide ranging expertise across the energy industry to provide a robust and rigorous range of courses to allow for a wide range of industry applications to be developed.
