Develop the theoretical knowledge and gain proficiency in the practical skills required to become an expert in quantity surveying and commercial project management.
You might already work in the construction industry, or you might be looking to expand on the experience you have built up in a related field. Delivered online, you will develop the core competencies required by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. You will become confident in decision making, conducting and overseeing research and strategic thinking. On graduating, you will be eligible to sit the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Assessment of Professional Competence, the final stage to becoming a chartered quantity surveyor.

Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.
Please note that all applicants to our University are required to meet our standard English language requirement of GCSE grade C or equivalent, variations to this will be listed on the individual course entry requirements.
You will be well placed to progress to charteredquantity surveyor status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Youwill have the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to work as a charteredquantity surveyor, or you could choose to enter a related field such asengineering or project management.

Construction Law Study the function and effectiveness of legal principles in the resolution of design/construction problems and learn how to apply these principles to avoid or resolve such difficulties.
Building Economics Undertake appraisals of construction proposals in terms of design, financial viability and client value, and research and critically appraise methodologies for cost and value decisions.
QS Professional Practice Understand practice and procedures for financial management, from pre-contract through to final account, and develop techniques for effective financial control which take into account social, corporate and ethical considerations.
Sustainable Construction Address the technological aspects of construction primarily related to structure, fabric and finishes, including sustainability issues that apply to the built environment.
Procurement & Tendering Examine traditional and non-traditional procurement and tendering methods and contractual obligations in English and international law. You will also study administrative procedures associated with risk, value and supply chain management.
QS Commercial and Financial Management Develop an understanding of the major financial accounting statements and concepts and principles of financial control at both project and corporate level.
Research Methods Gain the necessary skills to research, draft and present assessed work in a subject of interest and appropriate to the award.
Major Project Conduct independent professional and academic research and produce a research paper of relevance to a masters degree programme.
