Course content

This course aims to provide you with in-depth appreciation of project management theories and practices, and their importance to contemporary businesses. The course helps develop your understanding of the need to manage and plan complex projects in an integrated manner, within an overall business environment.

You will study the skills and tools that help projects run more efficiently and effectively, particularly in the face of the challenging, but highly rewarding, project-based business environment. Aimed primarily at graduates who wish to move into a project management role, the course is suited to those who wish to work in the complex functions of major construction, IT, manufacturing, services and retail.

The key modules of the course include Strategic Management, Procurement and Purchasing, Information Systems, Applied Project Management, Human Aspects of Project Management and a Project Management Based Research Paper.

Subjects are studied through a range of different and engaging teaching methods. Teaching methods include lectures, case study discussions, group work, and an individual and group projects. Latest technologies will be used in lectures to deliver the theoretical concepts, utilising videos and smart phone applications that facilitate instant assessment of your understanding of key learning points. Leading consultants and project managers will be invited to guest lecture and discuss hot issues in the field with students on the course. Seminars are based on case studies and business games to apply project management theories and tools. Assessments include individual and group assignments, individual examinations and in-class tests.
