Course content

The Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Computing is an innovative and flexible course designed to meet the needs of teachers in primary schools, enabling the schools they work in to excel in the area of Computing. The course can be studied via distance learning or with some face-to-face options. You will gain professional recognition as a computing specialist, giving you the confidence to teach and lead in this subject.

Course content

This course will equip you with the subject knowledge, teaching skills and critical understanding you need to lead positive change for the computing curriculum in your school across the three strands of the computing curriculum: Digital Literacy, Computer Science and Information Technology. You will get professional recognition, build your confidence and develop your leadership skills to deliver outstanding computing teaching.

The course is designed to be flexible so that you can choose to take forward aspects of computing that are relevant for your teaching context. You might, for example, choose to focus on computer science, on the use of mobile devices or on technology across the curriculum. The course is suitable for beginners as well as experienced practitioners.


Career Opportunities

When you have completed this course you will be an expert in the field of primary computing, enabling you to lead this subject successfully in a primary education setting.

You will also have made significant progress towards an MA in Education, with 60 Masters’ level credits. If you have studied other credit bearing courses previously, you may have up to 120 credits, which means that you would only have to complete the thesis to gain an MA.
