Course content

This course is for international students who want to study a postgraduate course at the University of Glamorgan or another UK university, but who need to improve their academic English skills and adapt to a new culture.

On this course, you can study your subject area through the medium of English before you start your higher degree. By the time you graduate, you will be familiar with UK university life, its academic requirements, and unique teaching and learning approaches. This is a University-wide programme that will prepare you for study in all academic areas.

This course is co-ordinated by staff in the English Language for International Students Unit, who have many years’ experience working with international students. Your application for the PMP will be considered by the PMP Award Tutor and the Admissions Tutor of your chosen subject area. You may be made an offer, which is subject to completion of the PMP. After successful completion of the PMP, you can automatically progress to your chosen postgraduate course.

Course content
• Oral English, reading, academic writing, study skills, grammar and British studies
• Modules from undergraduate programmes in the subject area you will study at postgraduate level

How you will study
You will spend 12 hours in English classes each week. You will also spend an average of 10 hours each week on assignments, reading and preparation for these classes. The rest of your time will be spent studying modules based on your chosen postgraduate course. You will have a personal weekly tutorial with a tutor to monitor your progress and solve any problems you may experience. Assessment will be through coursework, tests, exams, projects, and individual and group presentations.
