Practice Education/Associate Fellow/Fellow of the HEA PgCert /Community/Specialist Practice Teacher Award / PgDip / MA

Course content

This course is intended for appropriately qualified practitioners who support the process of learning and assessment in the practice and academic setting. This course is part-time and designed to offer a flexible pathway. It is possible to study individual modules or the whole course, however this decision must be made before application.

The course incorporates the elements required by:

• Nurses and Midwives who wish to become Community Practice Teachers or Nurse/ Midwife Teachers (recorded with the NMC).
• Social Workers who wish to gain the Stage 1 and stage 2 Practice Educator awards in Practice Education.
• The course also meets the needs of those Allied Health Professionals and General Practitioners who wish to be recognised by their professional bodies.
• The Higher Education Academy for recognition as an Associate Fellow or Fellow. This provides national recognition of your commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in higher education.

PgCert Practice Education (60 credits)

• The role of the Practice Educator - TBE- 7- 009 (40 credits)
• Curriculum perspectives - TBE- 7- 010 (20 credits), or:
• Practice development educator - TBE-7-011 (Social Work) (20 credits)

PgDip Practice Education (120 credits)

Year 1

• The role of the Practice Educator - TBE- 7- 009 (40 credits)
• Curriculum perspectives - TBE- 7- 010 (20 credits), or:
• Practice development educator - TBE-7-011 (Social Work) (20 credits)

Year 2

• Leadership and Innovation in Practice Education – TBE -7- 012 (20 credits)
• Research in Health and Social Care – TAR -7-011 (20 credits)

1 optional Module, selected from the list below (20 credits )

• Leading in Patient and Public Engagement - RCN-7102 (20 credits)
• Mentoring and Coaching for Leadership in Health Care - RCN -7 103 (20 credits)

MA Practice Education (180 credits)

Year 1

• Dissertation - TAR-7-010 (60 credits) This course is approved by the Higher Education Academy.

The Higher Education Academy provides services to the higher education sector for teaching professionals and subject and discipline groups.

Employability

The programme incorporates the elements required by nurses and midwives who wish to become community or specialist practice teachers or nurse/midwife teachers (recorded with the Nursing and Midwifery Council). The programme also meets the needs of those allied health professionals who wish to be recognised by their professional bodies.
