Online Gastroenterology Courses

Diploma MSc is an award-winning provider of online medical education for Postgraduate Diploma and Masters Courses. Our online Gastroenterology courses are offered in conjunction with our partner, the University of South Wales, who have developed a strong reputation for delivering innovative learning.

The Postgraduate Diploma and MSc online course in Gastroenterology has been designed to help physicians interested in the field of Gastroenterology to further their knowledge and improve their clinical judgement.

This theoretical course is designed to facilitate a better understanding of common gastroenterology disorders typically found in the community and will enable students to up-skill in diagnostic and management of gastroenterological disorders.

You will also be able to be better equipped to read and interpret endoscopy reports, an increasingly important element of practice.

This is not a course that will assess or develop endoscopic procedures as this is not the focus nor would it be possible to achieve without residential training and supervision. This course is therefore designed to improve knowledge which is an essential complement to clinical practice.

With increasing competition for employment in the healthcare arena, and increasing specialisation, the purpose of the course is to promote and enhance professional skills and knowledge amongst students that have a direct relevance and application to the demands of their working roles.

Applicants taking our courses in gastroenterology will typically be GPs, doctors, nurses, physicians and pharmacists. For healthcare professionals who successfully complete a qualification, career progression would likely be facilitated, as well as the direct opportunity to improve patient care.

Postgraduate Diploma in Gastroenterology

On completion of the gastroenterology postgraduate course, you will be able to:

  • Articulate professional decisions, incorporating an evidence based rationale, in a variety of diverse and complex situations related to gastroenterology

  • Apply life-long learning and advanced problem solving skills to clinical practice
  • Demonstrate leadership in the delivery and advancement of gastroenterology related care
  • Demonstrate leadership of teams in multi-agency, multi-cultural and/or international contexts

Assessment

The course puts assessment at the heart of learning by using clinical scenarios to facilitate problem-solving, critical analysis and evidence-based care. The scenarios act as both the focus for learning and assessment thus embedding assessment within the learning process.

Each of the 6 modules has the same assessment format. Due to the online nature of the course, students are expected to login and participate in the course regularly throughout the module (ideally on a daily basis).

Students use the skills gained during the lectures to engage with the different activities (see below):

  • Clinical case scenarios with case based discussion - 40%
  • Case based examination - 30%
  • Group/individual activity - 20%
  • Individual learning portfolio - 10%

Teaching Methods

You’ll learn entirely online with the support of a dedicated team who will help you with any challenges you may face - from help with navigating our online learning platform to advice on what you need to do to pass the course and meet deadlines.

Induction

You’ll be invited to an Induction Day where you will meet tutors and have workshops on study skills such as scientific writing, levels of evidence, Harvard referencing and reflective writing. The Induction Day will be at the University of South Wales in the UK. It is not compulsory to attend but if you would like to and don't live locally, you can take part online.

Module 2: Professional Project - To produce the professional project, students continue to use the online course; however much of the work is self-directed.

Students are expected in the first 8 weeks to interact with their tutor on a weekly basis. Students select a specific project and submit a project summary/proposal (approximately 1500 words).

Once the proposal has been approved, the professional project (10,500 words) itself is then completed through online guidance and supervision offered by the tutor. The student and tutor will interact regularly (weekly) on the dedicated students/tutor discussion area or through any other means of communication deemed appropriate by both parties (telephone/SKYPE/email). Note of any verbal communication with the tutor is recorded in the student's journal by the student.
